Educational punishment came into being together with education and legitimate educational punishment contributes to the attainment of educational objectives.To carry out educational punishment,teachers needs certain conditions.Educators emphasize that legitimate educational punishment is an indispensable part of students' growing process and the importance of educational punishment has been verified by the law of education development.In history,educational punishment has come through three periods.In ancient times,educational punishment reigned supreme and corporal punishments were common.In modern times,teacher-student relationship became much more equal and corporal punishments were seldom used.Nowadays,educational punishment is going through polarization.Excessive punishment or abandoning punishment is bad for students' growth and all-round development,so the return of legitimate educational punishment is urgent.The return of legitimate educational punishment is subject to many factors.Internal factors include teachers' subject consciousness,concept of educational punishment,personal backgrounds and so on,of which teachers' subject consciousness is the most crucial.External factors include national laws and regulations,schools' attitude,student's age characteristics,attitude of news medias,the awareness of punishment in family and so on,of which national laws and regulations is the most basic external factor.According to Materialistic Dialectics,internal factor is the decisive factor of legitimate educational punishment's return and external factor is the secondary factor.Internal and external factors are both important and they interact each other.In order to know if the conditions of legitimate educational punishment's return get improved after The Disciplinary Rules unveiled,I designed a questionnaire and conducted a survey of teachers from different primary and secondary schools.Survey results show that there are quite a few conditions still remain unimproved.For instance,teachers' subject consciousness are inadequate,quite a few teachers haven't read The Disciplinary Rules not to mention applying it,teachers of different backgrounds own discrepant cognizance of educational punishment,most schools haven't made detailed regulations,communications between schools and families are not enough,there exists obvious difference on attitude of city schools and country schools,schools' support for teachers are inadequate,parents and students hold discrepant attitudes toward teachers of different backgrounds,students in different grades hold discrepant attitudes toward educational punishment and so on.In order to mature the conditions of legitimate educational punishment's return,there are some suggestions.Firstly,teachers should strengthen subject consciousness,take the initiative to know The Disciplinary Rules and make better use of it,establish correct values of educational punishment,pay close attention to students' age characteristic,establish records of educational punishments,take actions to consolidate educational punishment's function,male teachers should pay more attention to students' feelings when give educational punishment.Secondly,local government should unveil regulations as soon as possible,guide schools to make detailed regulations,put regulations into evaluation and truly guarantee teachers' income.Thirdly,primary and secondary schools should take students' age characteristics and local situations into consideration when making detailed regulations,build long-term mechanism,intensify particular training directing at new teachers,take more active roles in communications between teachers and parents.Lastly,mainstream medias should report more positive cases,communities could build education platforms,parents should play a positive role in undertaking parts of the punishment responsibility.
