There are many kinds of Chinese painting, covering a wide range, but no matter what kind of Chinese painting contains the traditional ideology and culture of our country, and the subjective emotions of painters. Therefore,we need to conduct further research and analysis on its aesthetic characteristics and artistic value,so that art teaching can better guide students to experience the connotation and charm of Chinese painting in the future.Taking the most Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings as representatives, this study aims to investigate the aesthetic orientation of individuals when they appreciate Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings.Study 1 used behavioral experiment to explore the differences of aesthetic orientation between Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings.Experiment 1used the vocabulary generation task to investigate the differences in the aesthetic orientation of Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings. It is found that there is a significant interaction between the types of paintings and vocabulary types. The content words generated by landscape paintings are significantly more than those generated by portrait paintings, but the emotional association words generated by figure paintings are significantly more than those generated by landscape paintings.Experiment 2 used the implicit association test to further verify the conclusions of Experiment 1,and verify that there are indeed differences between Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings. The results show that the individual's reaction time to the compatible joint task is lower than that to the incompatible joint task, which indicates that for landscape paintings, individuals are more inclined to appreciate perceptually from an objective perspective, and will regard whether they conform to the objective world as their evaluation criterion;for portrait paintings, individuals are more inclined to appreciate perceptually from a subjective perspective, and will regard whether it accords with the subjective emotional world as the criterion for its evaluation and judgment. In the study 2,eye movement experiment was used to explore the differences between Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings in the process of appreciation.Experiment 3 recorded the eye movement characteristics of the individuals when appreciating Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings, combined with the aesthetic experience scores after appreciating the two types of works,to study the individuals ' attention distribution when appreciating the two types of Chinese paintings. The analysis of eye movement data show that when individuals appreciate Chinese landscape paintings, the fixation duration are longer than that of figure paintings, and the numbers of fixation are more than that of figure paintings, but the aesthetic experience is lower than that of figure paintings. On this basis,we found that the background may affect the individuals' appreciation of Chinese paintings. Therefore,in Experiment 4,the background was used as a variable, through the eye movement experiment to investigate the individuals' eye movement characteristics when appreciating landscape paintings, figure paintings without background and figure paintings with background, combined with the aesthetic experience score after appreciating the three kinds of works,to explore the significance of the background in the individuals ' appreciation of Chinese paintings. The results show that when appreciating Chinese landscape paintings, figure paintings with background, and figure paintings without background, individuals have the most fixation duration and number of fixation for landscape paintings, but the score of aesthetic experience is the lowest;for figure paintings without background, the fixation duration and number of fixation are the least, but the score of aesthetic experience is the highest;for figure paintings with background is in the middle of them. And according to the eye movement data,it is found that when appreciating the figure paintings, the individuals will pay more attention to the face area of the figure in the paintings. This study explores the characteristics of high school students' aesthetic orientation in appreciating Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings, and discusses in detail the differences in the process of appreciating different types of Chinese paintings.Under the condition of this study,we come to the conclusion that there are differences in the aesthetic orientation of Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings.Although individuals mainly appreciate Chinese landscape paintings and figure paintings from the cognitive and emotional perspectives, when individuals appreciate of Chinese landscape paintings more from the perspective of cognition or content, and while they appreciate figure paintings individuals will also consider the paintings content, but more from the perspective of emotional aesthetic orientation. And individuals will spend more attention resources in appreciating Chinese landscape paintings, and focus more attention resources in the middle of the picture. In figure paintings, more attentions are paid to the face area of the figure in the paintings. In addition,in the appreciation of Chinese paintings, the background will affect the individuals' aesthetic experience. This conclusion not only enriches the relevant research conclusions about the aesthetics of Chinese paintings, but also provides ideas and methods for the appreciation of Chinese paintings in high school students' art education.
