Research universities are the core force for the development of national innovation enterprise.They not only produce original research results,but also cultivate innovative talents.In the United Kingdom,higher education has a long history and its quality has remained at the front ranks of the world.Among them,research universities play a major role in both research and teaching.Exploring the experience of British research universities,it is found that the human-oriented education schooling philosophy,teaching and research synergetic methods to cultivate talents are their important features.Based on this,this article attempts to fully explore the the mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities,with a view to providing a new way of thinking for talent-cultivating in China's "Double First-Class" universities construction.The main content of this article is divided into five chapters.In chapter one,combining the historical background of the international and social environment,summarizing the historical evolution process of relations between teaching and research in British research universities,including brewing,sprout,establishment,development,conflict and fusion,in order to find the historical roots of the formation of the mechanism.Based on the analysis of the historical characteristics of teacher role,school system,and national policy,it is found that the success of the mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities has its historical foundation,and more importantly,it is from its insistence on the mission of university education and unremitting efforts to establish a close connection between teaching and research.It is concluded that the attempt to teaching and research synergetic education is a essential choice to promote the development of research universities.In chapter two,using Humboldt's "Unification of teaching and research",Griffith and Healey's "Research-based teaching" and Gibbons' "Transformation of knowledge production in universities" as the main theoretical basis of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities.In chapter three,according to the degree of synergy between teaching and research,three path performances of operating mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities are summarized:classroom-based inquiry learning approach;project-based undergraduate research plan;work-based practical application courses.In chapter four,based on the national policy,school management and teacher training,exploring the supporting mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities,trying to describe their role of leadership,protection and incentives in concrete practices.In chapter five,in view of the reasonable factors on mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in British research universities,providing frame-shaped suggestions for the improvement of mechanism of teaching and research synergetic education in China's "Double First-class" universities construction.
