The Fable is a form of writing with a long history and strong vitality,which brings readers a unique reading experience with its rich philosophy and vivid images.Therefore,the fable accounts for a certain proportion in all versions of textbooks in both primary and secondary schools.This paper mainly discusses the status and problems of fable teaching,taking the Chinese textbooks in junior middle school compiled by the Ministry of Education as example.First of all,the introduction analyzes the object,origin,status,methods and significance of this research.The first chapter analyzes the selection survey and teaching value of fables in middle school.The first section mainly defines the fable,based on its etymology as well as the views from scholars at home and abroad.The second section analyzes the selection of fables in the primary and secondary textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education,providing reference for adjusting the fable teaching in textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education.The third section mainly discusses the value of fable teaching and concludes the values of fable teaching in the development of the ability of thinking as well as moral standards,imagination,and also the language organization and expression.The second chapter analyzes problems and causes in the fable teaching in the junior high school.According to the results of the questionnaire,the problems are found as follows: teachers’ lack of alternatives of teaching methods,the flexibility of fable understanding,the introduction of fable background,the study on its social values,the attention on the fable writing training.Then the causes of the above problems are analyzed teachers’ lack of focus on fable,the relevant knowledge,attention on students’ needs of fable learning.The third chapter puts forward proposals about the teaching measures for the current situation of fable teaching.The teaching measures focus on six aspects including choosing suitable teaching methods,focusing on the knowledge expansion,encouraging students to read more fables,cultivating students’ ability of fable writing,fully playing the role of fable in practical education,improving teachers’ fable knowledge and enhancing teacher’s awareness of lifelong learning.
