Danmin are "aquatic residents" who once lived in the southeast coastal areas of our country.They have used the sea as their fields,boats as their homes,and wandering on the sea for generations.The Nanhai Community of Sanya City,Hainan is the main settlement area of the Danmin in Hainan,with a total of about 12,000 Danmin.Since ancient times,people on the land have regarded Danmin as an alien and untouchable.They did not even enjoy the same political treatment as land people.It was not until the founding of New China in 1949 that the Danmin group was completely liberated and became the masters of the country.In 1955,the Central Ethnic Identification Group identified the Danmin as the Han nationality.In the 1960 s,the Danmin in Hainan gradually "washed their feet and went ashore",moving from "water dwellings" to "land dwellings".On the one hand,the Danmin group ushered in a new life and started a new journey of integrating into the terrestrial society,but it has not yet been fully integrated.On the other hand,the unique Danjia culture created by the Danmin group during the long sea years of thousands of years is showing a trend of gradual disappearance.One of the key issues is the confusion of cultural identity.After the reform and opening,the economic recovery promoted the cultural recovery.The attention from outside the group and the introspection within the group have also prompted some insightful people in the Danmin community to realize that Danmin culture should be cherished and people can integrate into the terrestrial society,but the unique culture cannot be lost,and they should not work hard because they are eager to adapt to the future.Saying goodbye to the past,this raises the issue of improving the cultural identity of the people.Social work upholds a concept of "helping others to help themselves",which is more suitable for dealing with this problem than administrative methods.Social workers use professional methods such as group work and community work to enter the Nanhai community's Danmin group,and carry out a series of activities in the roles of service,facilitator,supporter,and coordinator to stimulate and promote the Danmin group Cultural introspection and cultural self-confidence help them to achieve self-improvement of cultural identity in a subtle way.It is of great significance for the excavation,protection and development of diverse cultures,especially the unique culture of special ethnic groups or groups,under the premise of building a strong sense of community of the Chinese nation.
