At the beginning of 2020,the epidemic of Co Vid-19 had a serious impact on higher education.Under the initiative of "Teach and learn online from home during classroom teaching closures" by the Ministry of Education,colleges and universities across China quickly switched from offline teaching to online teaching.Critical public health emergencies trigger changes in the educational ecosystem,which in turn affects the subjects and objects in the knowledge field.At present,the research on online teaching in colleges and universities is mostly focused on pedagogy,and less research has been conducted on communication.Therefore,this paper analyzes the communication process of online teaching in colleges and universities based on communication.This paper explores the communication characteristics and problems of online teaching in colleges and universities in the context of major public health emergencies,and then considers how to promote the benign development of online teaching in colleges and universities in the future.Based on the "5W" model,this study analyzes the new features of the communication process of online teaching in colleges and universities: Judging from the subject and object of communication,online teaching forces college teachers to update their skills and influences their educational philosophy and teaching methods;during the home learning period,it also demands more independent learning ability of students.Judging from the dissemination media and contents,professional teaching platforms,interactive social media and office applications play an important role in transmitting knowledge.Knowledge has also changed in terms of the source,scope and space of dissemination.In terms of dissemination,students' attitudes toward online teaching were mixed,but all preferred to return to school after the pandemic.As a contingency measure,this large-scale online teaching was a successful online teaching practice.However,it also revealed many problems: inadequate construction of teaching platforms,difficulty in ensuring learning outcomes,diluted emotional relationships between teachers and students,and the neglect of students in online distress.In the past,online teaching served more as an auxiliary teaching tool,but it played the main role in the middle of the epidemic.This online teaching has far-reaching impact on the teaching reform of China's colleges and universities,accelerating online teaching from "novelty" to "new normal" and promoting the perfect integration of online teaching and offline teaching,which is of great significance to the future development of college education.
