A Dream of Red Mansions is one of the greatest novels of Chinese literature. It is a literary Encyclopedia of Chinese feudal society that reveals a huge amount in Qing China, about the ways of people, clothing and accessories, garden architecture and ornaments, characters, cooking, poetry and the bad aristocratic life.It is a profound reading with great literary, cultural and teaching value that reflects the society and people's life. However, the teaching situation of reading the whole book is not satisfied. At present, some teachers still use the method of "single intensive reading" to teach, ignoring the whole of this book;students still do not read the whole book, and are baffled by the first step of reading the whole book-reading through. In addition, the complicated relationship between characters, the subtle layout of the surroundings, and the long span of time in the book are all illusory obstacles for students to read.In view of this situation, the author proposes to use mind map to help read the whole book.Mind map is known as "Swiss Army knife in brain",which is a way of information representation proposed by Tony Bozan, the British "Mr.world brain".It can be used to assist various forms of brain activities and stimulate the whole brain to think comprehensively.Mind map is composed of central keyword, central image and several branches of subordinates. Each branch is written with a keyword. As a reading bracket,it can effectively solve various problems in the process of reading. After sorting out the three advantages of mind map for the whole book reading--visualization,systematization and divergence, the author makes full use of its advantages, designs mind map to help the whole book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions, characterizes the reading process, associates complex elements, and awakens collaborative thinking,so as to strengthen students' reading comprehension. On this basis, the author designs three kinds of mind maps according to the characteristics of different reading stages: preparatory mind map before reading, synchronous mind map during reading and review mind map after reading. Each type of mind map is further divided into two dimensions to explain with examples. The first chapter is the introduction part.In this part, the research origin, research significance, research status at home and abroad, and research methods and theoretical analysis related to mind map are methodically introduced. And the author also expounds the substantial theoretical basis that mind map can be applied to the whole book reading of A Dream of Red Mansions. The second chapter provides background knowledge for the application of mind map in the entire book reading teaching of A Dream of Red Mansions, which includes the background of the new curriculum reform, the importance of reading the whole book of A Dream of Red Mansions, the teaching status quo of reading the entire of this book, and the three benefits of mind map in the overall teaching of reading this book:visualization, systematization and divergence. These three advantages fully reflect the different stages of students' reading.Chapter three and chapter four are the main parts of this thesis. The third chapter mainly discusses the three forms of mind map applied in the whole book reading teaching of a dream of Red Mansions, and expounds each form from three aspects: introduction, specific application and evaluation. The fourth chapter uses the three forms of mind map as a tool,BOST as a framework, and the content of the book as a brick for the teaching design, and the author will implement the first stage of the educational design to test the positive role of mind map in the entire book of A Dream of Red Mansions. The fifth chapter is the reflection and conclusion which puts forward the application limitations and precautions of mind map.The author hopes that this research can play an active role in promoting middle school students to read A Dream of Red Mansions.
