Cultivating students’ independent reading ability is the ultimate goal of Chinese reading teaching.The transition from learning to reading to learning by reading is exactly the process of the formation of their independent reading ability.The requirements for reading teaching in "Compulsory Education Chinese Curriculum Standards"(2011 edition)fully reflect the emphasis on the cultivation of students’ independent reading ability.Combining the three-in-one reading teaching system of "intensive reading","skimming" and "extracurricular reading" in the textbook compiled by the Ministry of Education,it can be found that the teaching of skimming text plays an important role in cultivating students’ independent reading ability and is the carrier of independent reading ability training.Therefore,it is very necessary to carry out research on the teaching of skimming text with the cultivation of independent reading ability as the core.Taking the cultivation of students’ independent reading ability as the starting point to examine the teaching of skimming texts,firstly,it is necessary to clarify the point of "independent reading ability".Combining the relevant interpretation of existing researches and the requirements of reading teaching in each section of the curriculum standard,the author believes that the independent reading ability at the elementary school level refers to the ability to read,the ability to accumulate basic Chinese knowledge,the ability to understand,the ability to distinguish between styles,the ability to appreciate,the ability to use reference books,and the ability to personalize reading.From the perspective of the reading teaching system of the textbook,the intensive reading class focuses on the method of learning to form independent reading ability,and the skimming class aims to implement the training of independent reading ability,and then complete the application of independent reading ability in extracurricular reading.Therefore,the relationship between the teaching of skimming texts and the cultivation of students’ independent reading ability can be clarified.That is,skimming texts is an in-class platform for students’ independent reading ability training and a training carrier for cultivating students’ independent reading ability,as well as an effective way of developing students’ independent reading ability..Based on the close relationship between the teaching of skimming texts and the cultivation of students’ independent reading ability,an inspection of the teaching examples of skimming texts in existing journals,works,and video lessons reveals that there are merits in these examples from the aspects of teaching preparation,teaching design,and teaching activities,but from the point of independent reading ability training,there are also shortcomings.The main reasons include five aspects: the reading form is single,and the reading ability of students has not been trained in many ways;the teaching mode is similar,and the distinction of various styles is not emphasized;teaching tendency is biased and fails to consolidate the methods of understanding and appreciation;the teaching method is traditional and does not highlight the autonomous use of tool resources;the teaching evaluation is general and does not pay attention to students’ personalized reading.In view of the shortcomings in the teaching of skimming texts,the author tries to put forward suggestions for teaching skimming texts that point to the cultivation of independent reading ability,including: adapting a multi-pronged approach to consolidate students’ reading ability;teaching according to the style,highlighting the ability of stylistic distinction;grasping both the form and the meaning of words and,strengthening the ability to understand and appreciate;using the frame of the text to improve the ability of using reference books;evaluating accurately and paying attention to the personalized reading ability,in order to fully implement the training of independent reading ability in the teaching of skimming text.
