In today's society,it is increasingly common to see that many young people ignore life.Life education is the prerequisite of all education.Yanyuan County of Liangshan Prefecture is a minority area,where Yi people gather.Students of various ethnic groups have different cultural backgrounds and religious beliefs.How to carry out life education better in the minority areas is the foundation of this research.The methods used in this study are literature research method,questionnaire survey method,experimental research method and interview method.The research objects are some middle school biology teachers in Liangshan Prefecture and some students from several middle schools in Yanyuan County.By investigating the status quo of life education in ethnic areas,this study finds some major problems from the perspective of teachers:(1)insufficient awareness of life education;(2)tight biology class time and heavy teaching tasks;(3)inadequate professional guidance;(4)single method of carrying out life education.The main problems found from the perspective of students are:(1)some students lack respect and awe for life;(2)some students are lacking in gratitude;(3)some students have weak safety awareness;(4)some students are short of survival skills.By analyzing the survey results of Han students and Yi students,this study found that there are certain differences in the life consciousness between the two ethnic students.Junior high school biology is a good carrier for life education.This research sorts out and lists the contents and materials of life education in the second volume biology textbook for eighth grade published by the PEP.This research took two parallel classes in grade two of Yanyuan Middle School as the experimental objects.Classroom penetration,practical activities,experimental teaching and theme activities were used to carry out the practice of life education for nearly one semester,so as to explore the implementation effect of life education in ethnic areas.The results showed that after the implementation of life education,students from the experimental class had a significantly better understanding than those from the control class in the five dimensions of life education,which were life and health awareness,safety awareness,environmental protection awareness,gratitude awareness and survival awareness.Taking class observation and the interviews results with the experimental class students into consideration,the author found that students had a strong sense of identity for life education,indicating that it was feasible and effective to implement life education in junior high school biology teaching in ethnic areas,and it had a positive impact on students' life consciousness.Based on the actual situation of life education in ethnic areas of Liangshan Prefecture,the following suggestions are made: the schools should carry out various forms of life education activities;invite experts to provide guidance and training so as to improve teachers' awareness of life education;pay attention to students' mental health issues;strengthen home-school contact and carry out home visits;attach importance to the subject of biology;strengthen ethnic unity education;develop school-based curriculum of life education with ethnic characteristics.Teachers should improve their own life education competency;build a teacher-student relationship that reflects life care;adopt diversified life education methods;expand life education materials apart from textbooks.At the family level,family education methods should be improved to create a harmonious and warm family atmosphere.
