| As an important carrier of subject knowledge, textbook illustrations undertake the task of enlightening thinking, representing knowledge, strengthening understanding and value orientation.Physics textbook illustrations play an important and unique role in the education process. With the coming of the era of picture reading, information representation has shifted from language and culture to visual culture. The new round of curriculum reform has put forward higher requirements for the form of textbooks. Therefore, the new edition of high school physics textbook illustrations is studied.Based on the above background and visual cultural perspective, this study aims to conduct a research on the illustrations of the two editions of high school physics textbooks, and explore the degree to which the illustrations conform to the requirements of curriculum standard compilation, the structural characteristics of the visual images presented and the visual cultural tendency. In this study, two sets of compulsory high school physics textbooks published by People’s Education Press and Guangdong Education Press in 2019 were selected as the research samples.Literature method, comparative research method and symbolic analysis method were adopted, and the analysis scales of textbook illustrations at home and abroad were used as the research framework. On the one hand, the visual image structure of textbook illustrations is compared and analyzed from five dimensions: classification mark, frame mark, form mark, content mark and layout design. On the other hand, this paper makes a comparative analysis of the visual cultural power tendency of textbook illustrations from three dimensions: the domestic and foreign regional culture, the urban and rural regional culture and the gender tendency of illustrated figures.Through comparative study, this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)The degree of specialization of physical content in the two editions is above average and the distribution of illustrations in different forms is reasonable.Compared with the PEP edition, the Guangdong edition is more inclined to express the reality in a clear and situational way. Both editions of the textbook illustrations establish equal social education relations and tend to transfer the control of the communication process to students, while the Cantonese edition gives students more freedom.(2)The number and density of illustrations in the two editions of the textbook meet the standard of both illustrations and pictures, and meet the requirements of the curriculum standard of clean and beautiful layout, proper density and balanced pictures and pictures; In the two editions of the textbooks, students’ cognitive level is ignored in the setting of the illustrations of compulsory three, which does not conform to the cognitive law.The selection of illustrations in the two editions of textbooks reflects the subjectivity of the subject and the characteristics of The Times, but they lack an international perspective and fail to give full play to the educational function of the history of physics. Some of the illustrations are not closely related to the teaching purpose.(3)The illustrations of the two editions of textbooks are dominated by national culture and urban culture, while the PEP edition reflects the serious tendency of urbanization and the obvious value orientation of the elite class; The two editions of textbooks show the unequal gender culture in the figure illustration setting, and marginalize the elderly and ignore the vulnerable groups. The illustrations of scientists and astronauts in the PEP edition are better than those in the Cantonese edition in an attempt to weaken gender stereotypes. On this basis, this study puts forward several suggestions from two dimensions, including suggestions on the compilation of textbook illustrations and the teaching of textbook illustrations. |
