The "core literacy" is proposed to train all kinds of talents who adapt to the information age of the 21 st century. The core literacy of geography is defined as the key ability and necessary character for students to apply geography and interdisciplinary knowledge, skills, methods and values in a real and complex environment to creatively solve complex and uncertain real-world problems. This is in line with the "New Geography Curriculum Standards for Full-time General Senior High Schools" which states that "emphasize the application of information technology in geography learning, fully consider how information technology influences geography teaching and how it develops a conducive environment for forming geographic information awareness and ability of students." The direction is the same. The core literacy of geography proposed today includes four fundamental concepts: human-land coordination, comprehensive thinking, regional cognition, and geographic practice. In particular, regional cognition embodies the very basic ideas related to geography.Regional geography has a wide range of content, large amount of information and strong comprehensiveness.Students not only need to master the basic knowledge of regional division, regional location, regional natural and human characteristics, but also need to analyze and reason about the connections and differences between geographic elements within the region, and the relationship between regions and regions. It can be seen that regional geography is the focus of geography teaching in middle schools. In view of the importance of regional cognition in core literacy, information technology has been widely used in the teaching of geographic region courses.Information technology is also crucial in improving regional awareness and core literacy. The General Office of the State Council initiated the "Plan for Accelerating the Advancement of Education Modernization(2018-2022)",which aims to push education to be digitalized, and strive to build new education and teaching models, education service supply methods and new education governance models based on information technology,to promote the in-depth integration of information technology and education and teaching, and gradually realize the full coverage of teachers and students in the application of information teaching and learning.Information technology is a technical means of geography teaching and research. Its rich information, prominent visual expression, spatial analysis function, timely feedback function between teachers and students, and powerful data statistics function can well assist middle school geography.teaching.The improvement of regional cognitive ability is related to the application of information technology.Information technology provides a technical means for geography teaching, which can change the cognitive structure of students to a large extent, thereby enhancing their regional cognitive ability. For further studying the role and mechanism of how information technology works to improve students' regional cognitive ability, this article explores the relationship between the use of information technology and the degree of regional cognitive enhancement through questionnaire analysis, case analysis, and literature methods,as well as the use of information technology in teachers' use Difficulties and problems faced. The questionnaire survey results show that compared with the traditional teaching methods, information technology-based teaching methods enable students to better participate in classroom interaction, greatly promoting the interaction between students, learning resources, and teachers and students, improving students' attention in the geography classroom.Information technologies improve the efficiency of students' absorbing geographic knowledge and effectively help students improve their regional cognitive ability. In addition, the influence of information technologies on geography teaching is manifested in three ways: first, informatized geography teaching methods can adapt to curriculum goals and achieve the expected effects of traditional teaching methods;second, informatized geography teaching methods make geography teaching adapt to the emerging information society;third, teachers tend to combine traditional and information-based teaching methods, through use information technologies as the primary teaching method, with traditional teaching as a supplement. These three ways of influence work together to comprehensively enhance students' regional cognitive ability. In addition, the extent of the impact of information technology on geography teaching and students' regional cognitive abilities needs to be considered in three aspects: first, the development of applied information technology teaching needs to focus on improving hardware conditions, supplemented by reasonable teacher training, and enhancing teachers' informatizationbased teaching concepts and awareness;second, the training of information technologies should consider the characteristics, acceptability, and individual needs of teachers;third, teachers should pay attention to how to apply information technology to geography classrooms more reasonably to avoid excessive and abuse Information technology causes harmful teaching effects.Additionally, this dissertation provides and analyzes two cases. These two cases can provide references for teachers to conduct geography teaching in different information technology environments. The first case shows how information technology can be integrated into regional geography teaching in a simple multimedia teaching environment(only teachers have the equipment). The second case shows how to create a real and complex situation in a smart learning environment(with the Internet, data, and devices in the hands of students). The case study provides an in-depth understanding of how information technology can improve students' regional cognitive ability in real and specific classroom teaching. The first case emphasizes that in the classroom, the video selected and edited by editing software was used to import new lessons and used as a teaching case.Information technologies were used to provide a series of situational question links, deepening students' understanding of the area, and cultivating students' autonomous learning ability and regional cognitive ability. The second case shows that geography classrooms supported by information technologies, such as the use of microclasses,Google Earth, and multi-screen interactive teaching style, have promoted the improvement of students' regional cognitive core literacy.Through the case analysis, this paper summarizes the geography teaching methods combined with information technology for the teachers in the front line and designs a scalable geography classroom teaching evaluation scale based on the improvement degree of regional cognition combined with information technology, which is conducive to teachers' rational use of information technology means to improve and enhance students' regional cognitive ability.
