While China’s economy maintains rapid growth,ecological and environmental problems are becoming increasingly prominent.In the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set up a new milestone in the construction of ecological civilization.In the new era,China’s ecological civilization construction is closely connected with environmental education.Geography is an important carrier of environmental education and the main way of environmental education.At the same time,junior middle school is the key period for students to establish good values and environmental views.Therefore,strengthening environmental education in junior middle school geography teaching is of great significance to improve middle school students’ environmental literacy.Using the methods of questionnaire,interview and comparative analysis,this paper investigates the current situation of environmental education in junior middle school geography teaching in three different levels of schools in Changde City,county and township.The survey results show that: first,the reserve of basic environmental knowledge of junior middle school students is relatively insufficient.The main reason is that the score of environmental questions in the middle school entrance examination is low,and schools,teachers and students do not pay enough attention to environmental education.Second,junior middle school students’ awareness and behavior of environmental protection need to be improved.The main reason is that teachers’ classroom teaching methods are single and students lack environmental practice activities.The school social education resources in underdeveloped areas are relatively scarce,the support for teachers’ environmental education is weak,there are few public channels to carry out environmental education,there are few opportunities for teachers to participate in environmental education training,and the quality of environmental education in different regions is uneven.Third,the evaluation system needs to be improved.The main reason is that the new policy of promoting junior high school to senior high school further increases the learning pressure of college students.Students are facing the diversion of senior high school and vocational high school.The school takes achievement assessment as the main evaluation standard,and students’ subjective initiative in learning is insufficient.Because environmental education policies,teachers’ own environmental knowledge reserves,environmental teaching methods and approaches,the differences of regional economic development levels,the distribution of educational resources and other factors affect the quality of environmental education,in order to improve the quality of environmental education in junior middle school,we should formulate environmental education policies that are advancing with the times.Strategies to improve the quality of environmental education in junior middle school geography teaching: first,fully tap the environmental knowledge in junior middle school textbooks,use a variety of classroom teaching methods,and broaden students’ access to environmental knowledge.Second,strengthen teachers’ environmental education and training and improve teachers’ awareness of environmental education.Third,use local resources to improve environmental behavior.We can appropriately increase the frequency of practical activities,enrich the ways of practical activities,and strengthen students’ awareness of environmental protection in combination with environmental protection festivals;In areas where social resources are scarce,schools should make good use of natural resources and give full play to the advantages of extracurricular practice in township areas.According to the compulsory curriculum standards of junior middle school,sort out the contents related to the environment in the geography textbooks of junior middle school,and design the teaching cases in the school in combination with the concept of environmental education;Using the characteristics of Changde’s humanistic environment to design out of school case teaching,formulate the evaluation index system of students’ environmental literacy and test the practical effect,hoping to solve the differences existing in the development of environmental education and contribute to the cause of environmental education and sustainable development in our country.
