For a long time,basic education in China,especially high school education,has focused on imparting subject knowledge and cultivating test-taking skills.In order to change this situation,in recent years,our country has carried out curriculum reform,which regards the cultivation of students' core competency in physics as an important goal of physics teaching.On the other hand,as time changes and technology advances,the concepts and methods of popular science education are constantly updated.The joint connection between popular science education and school physics education is conducive to promoting the formation of students' core competency in physics.This paper explores the use of science popularization education to cultivate high school students' core competency in physics,which is divided into six parts.The first part introduces the background environment of this research.This includes the adjustment of the subject requirement of college specialty selection,the core competency of physics proposed by the high school physics curriculum standards,the "double reduction" policy that requires reducing the burden of student homework and off-campus training,the Ministry of Education's requirement to use popular science to help "double reduction".This paper expounds the current status of high school students' physics core competency level,related research on cultivating high school students' core competency in physics,popular science education at home and abroad,and the use of popular science in physics teaching.On this basis,the theme of this work is put forward,the meaning of the research is clarified,and the thinking and methods of the research are explained.The second part defines the important concepts in this research and elaborates the related theories of pedagogy and psychology on which this research is based.The third part understands the current situation of high school students' core competency in physics and the students' acceptance of popular science education by means of a questionnaire.It is found that students' physics core competency level is relatively low,and students have few opportunities to receive popular science education.The fourth part is based on the survey results and puts forward four measures to use popular science to cultivate high school students' core competency in physics.1.Use the popular science material in the textbook.This paper sorts out the popular science materials in the first and third volumes of the optional compulsory high school physics textbooks of the Cantonese Education version and analyzes the effect of these popular science materials on the cultivation of core competency in physics.2.Watch popular science programs.Listed popular science programs related to high school physics knowledge,taking the two popular science programs "Come on!Toward the Future" and "Big Science Experiment" as examples,the program content related to high school physics was sorted out,and the core competency of physics involved in the content of these programs was analyzed.3.Read physics popular science books.This paper introduces how to choose popular science books on physics suitable for high school students,and the classification of popular science books on physics.4.Carry out popular science activities.The types and advantages of popular science activities are introduced,and the implementers of popular science activities are identified.The fifth part is a case analysis of using popular science to cultivate high school students' core competency in physics.1.The case design of applying popular science program to classroom teaching.Taking the teachings of "eddy current,electromagnetic damping and electromagnetic drive" as examples,the application of popular science programs in physics teaching is designed to promote the formation of students' core competency in physics.2.The case design of the reading activity of physics popular science books.In order to cultivate students' core competency in physics,the reading activities of popular science books are designed,including the objectives,preparations,processes,and effects of the activities.3.The case design of the "Light and Health" popular science lecture.This paper analyzes the effect of lecture-like popular science activities on the cultivation of core competency in physics.4.Practical cases of scientific and technological activities.Taking "Guangdong Zhongyuan Middle School Science Popularization Tour" as an example,resources such as popular science exhibition boards,popular science exhibits,and small technological productions are introduced,and the effect of popular science activities on the cultivation of core competency of physics is analyzed.The sixth part is to summarize the research and reflect on the shortcomings.
