The New Chinese Textbook for Higher Primary Schools is a set of Chinese textbooks for primary schools in the Republic of China compiled by Mr.Lv Simian,also known as the New Chinese Textbook.The book is divided into six volumes and was published by China Bookstore from February to April 1916,and has been reprinted many times,which has far-reaching influence.This paper takes the selection of the New Chinese Textbook as the research object,and analyzes the influencing factors of the New Chinese Textbook from three aspects: the influence of foreign advanced educational concepts,the changes in educational aims and curriculum standards,the editor's ideas and compiling principles.Then,this paper discusses from three aspects: the selection subject,the selection genre and the selection arrangement,and summarizes the text selection characteristics of the New Chinese Textbook.The characteristics of the selection are: First,in terms of subject matter,the selection of New Chinese Textbook has a wide range of selected topics,involving knowledge of history,geography,chemistry,biology,astronomy and other disciplines,and focuses on the development of students' healthy personality.The content of the text is close to the reality of life.Especially in the senior year,the selected articles about emerging industries,science and technology indirectly promoted the students' understanding of industrial development at that time.A large number of selections are far-reaching,reflecting the strong patriotic feelings of the textbook editors.Second,in terms of genre,the selection of the New Chinese Textbook has various genres and focuses on improving students' aesthetic ability.The choice of genre respects children's cognitive level and cultivates their interest in learning.The narrative,argumentative,expository,practical essays and poetry of the textbook reflect the stylistic features of modern significance.Finally,in terms of arrangement,the number of class hours for each selected text in the New Chinese Textbook is gradually increasing,and the number of class hours used for each book is generally stable.The difficulty of the text selection is gradually increasing with the increase of grades,and the content is from the easy to the complicated,which is in line with students' acceptance ability.The selected illustrations are vivid and appropriate,which can help students understand the text content and they are very practical.The selected texts pay much attention to the accumulation and application of the knowledge,including the classical cultural knowledge,the world cultural knowledge and the language knowledge.At the same time,the article also points out the shortcomings of the New Chinese Textbook,such as incomplete selection of the poems and lack of annotations.On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of the New Chinese Textbook,this paper points out three inspirations from the New Chinese Textbook for the compilation of current primary school Chinese textbooks.First,the compilation of textbooks should integrate diverse culture,and shape personality cultivation,not only inherits the essence of Chinese traditional culture,but also reflects the spirit of active exploration in the West.Second,the compilation of textbook should respect children's development,and appropriately increase the scientific knowledge that leads the development of the world,so as to broaden students' horizons and improve their thinking ability.Third,the compilation of textbooks should pay attention to the arrangement of texts,strengthen the logicality between the texts,and pay attention to the rigor of the internal structure of the texts and the language.In the specific discussion,I put forward my own opinions based on the compilation and selection of Chinese textbook for primary school in the current edition,in order to provide some inspiration for the compilation and selection of Chinese textbooks for primary schools at present.
