"Number and Algebra" is one of the four areas of content in the junior high school mathematics curriculum,and it is a necessary knowledge for citizens.In the new curriculum reform,China has always attached importance to the construction of junior high school mathematics textbooks,and it is necessary to improve the content of "Number and Algebra" by learning from the experience of other countries.After combing through the relevant literature,we found that there are few studies on British textbooks,and even fewer studies on different versions of British junior high school mathematics textbooks.Considering the international influence of the UK and the characteristics of mathematics education cannot be underestimated,we choose the Cambridge Checkpoint Mathematics(CCM version)of Cambridge University Press,which is more influential in the UK,and the junior high school mathematics textbook of People's Education Press(RJ version),which is the most widely used in China,to compare the contents of the textbook "We analyzed the characteristics and shortcomings of the content of"Number and Algebra" in our junior high school mathematics textbooks.The research questions are:(1)What are the characteristics of the overall organization of the Mathematics textbooks in the RJ and CCM editions?(2)What are the characteristics of the overall difficulty of "Number and Algebra" in the RJ and CCM editions of junior secondary mathematics textbooks?(3)What are the implications for the development of mathematics textbooks and the content of "Number and Algebra" in our junior secondary school?Conclusion :(1)in terms of system and design structure,the number and types of columns in RJ edition are more than those in CCM edition.In terms of concept introduction,RJ edition mainly relies on practical problems,mostly involving the history of ancient Chinese mathematics.CCM version to introduce the story form.In terms of concept presentation,the content of RJ version is gradually deepened,introduced by questions and concepts,focusing on students' understanding of concepts.The CCM version mainly condenses concepts,explains the application process of knowledge in brief language,emphasizes the value of knowledge,and favors students' active understanding.In terms of narration design,the number of narration in RJ version is slightly more than that in CCM version,and the content forms are more diversified.In terms of illustration design,the number of illustrations in RJ edition is higher than that in CCM edition,and the proportion of mathematical illustrations is higher.The CCM edition pays more attention to the illustrations of mathematics history and science and technology.(2)In terms of content structure,both Chinese and English editions attach great importance to the setting of "number and algebra" content.The proportion of "number and algebra" content in grade 7 is significantly higher than that in Grade 8 and 9,and the content arrangement is systematic and consistent.The CCM version of "number and Algebra" is evenly distributed among the three grades,and the corresponding contents are repeated in different grades.The knowledge requirements are deepened and the "spiral" arrangement is prominent.(3)In terms of content difficulty,the content breadth of "Number and Algebra" in CCM is higher than that in RJ,but the content depth is obviously lower than that in RJ.It is found that the RJ version of "number and Algebra" is "precise and deep",while the CCM version of "Number and Algebra" is "general and shallow".(4)In terms of examples and exercises setting,the number of examples and exercises of "number and algebra" in CCM is higher than that in RJ.In terms of the types of examples,the contents of number and algebra in both English and Chinese versions do not include multiple choice and proof questions.The RJ version lays emphasis on cultivating students' computing ability,while the CCM version lays more emphasis on presenting leading questions.In terms of exercise types,RJ version has more judgment and calculation questions,while CCM version has a higher number of cloth-filling and solving questions.The RJ edition is higher than the CCM edition in examples and exercises.Based on the findings of the study,the following recommendations are proposed for the preparation of "Number and Algebra" in junior high school mathematics textbooks in China:(1)pay attention to the spiral arrangement of knowledge and give full play to the advantages of the mathematical system;(2)create multiple problem situations and improve the quality of illustrations and narration;(3)optimize the background of examples and exercises,taking into account the quantity and gradient of stratification;(4)encourage students to understand and express themselves,and encourage innovative activities to promote learning;(5)appropriately reduce the overall difficulty and give full play to the function of "reading,doing and learning".
