Guidance on the teaching reform of Physical Education and Health,published by the Ministry of Education in 2021,requires deepening the reform of physical education,grasping the integrated and systematic teaching method of "teaching,practising and competing",and using more effective teaching,practicing and competing",and using more effective teaching.The traditional teaching methods can no longer meet the needs of teaching reform,so it is necessary to innovate in the traditional teaching methods and find more teaching ideas.In this study,the "game teaching method" was selected for experimentation in accordance with the behavioural habits and growth patterns of junior high school students,aiming to explore the advantages and disadvantages of the "game teaching method"in junior high school basketball class,so as to expect to further improve the existing teaching model and provide theoretical and practical reference for basketball teaching reform.The effectiveness of the game teaching method in junior high school physical education is the subject of this paper.The experimental period of basketball teaching was 16 weeks.The research methods used were documentary method,experimental method,questionnaire survey method and mathematical and statistical method,and the data before and after the teaching experiment were compared and analyzed.The findings of this paper are as follows:1.Through the competition teaching method,it was found that the students did not show any significant difference in the data indexes of physical fitness before and after the experiment(P>0.05),attesting to this situation,competition teaching method on the growth of students' physical fitness was not significant.2.Through the competition teaching method,it was found that the students' improvement in dribbling around obstacles,spot passing and 30 seconds shooting was especially obvious(P<0.01),This shows that the competition model of teaching has shown a positive effect on the students' learning of basketball skills.3.After the teaching experiment,it can be found that the students' movement normality of dribbling around obstacles,fixed-point passing,and30-second shooting have improved significantly(p<0.05),suggesting that the competition teaching mode can effectively improve the normality of basketball movement.4.Students' positive attitudes towards learning basketball changed dramatically after teaching,basketball independent learning ability,basketball attention and exercise level,affective performance and cooperation spirit in the questionnaire all have a significant increase(p<0.05),suggesting that the competition teaching method can effectively activate the classroom atmosphere and thus enhance the students' enthusiasm to play basketball actively.The recommendations are as follows: Firstly,the time spent on physical fitness exercises should be increased appropriately.Secondly,the setting of competitions or games should be adjusted according to the competition.Thirdly,the teaching effect should be further enhanced by combining traditional teaching modes.Fourthly,grade and class competitions should be used as an extension of the classroom to test the results of teaching.Fifth,teaching should be combined with after-school homework to improve student learning.
