Since the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed the "Implementation of the Healthy China Strategy",China has attached great importance to building a "healthy campus" and made every effort to create a healthy, green, and comfortable campus environment for children. However, with the acceleration of urbanization, the construction of primary school campuses is facing a shortage of land, leading to a serious compression of the design area of public activity spaces on campus and a continuous reduction in natural space. These issues have severed the connection between children and nature, negatively affecting their physical and mental health and growth, and violating human nature to be close to nature. Therefore, the construction of primary school campuses should not only focus on the construction of hardware facilities, but also incorporate children’s needs for closeness to nature and higher level activities into the design considerations. In this context, this article is guided by the theory of biological design and focuses on the primary school campus public activity space that carries children’s daily learning and life as the research object. It systematically studies its biological design strategies, aiming to provide practical reference for the biological design of urban primary school public activity spaces. This article analyzes the relationship between biological design theory and campus public activity space design from multiple perspectives through literature research and systematic research methods. In terms of literature research,by reading the basic literature of biological theory, clarify the mechanism and application benefits of biological design,as well as its specific design methods. On this basis, analyze the psychological and behavioral characteristics of primary school age children, who are the main users of campus public activity spaces, and explore the design of primary school public activity spaces suitable for children’s growth; In terms of system research, through methods such as on-site research,semi-structured interviews, and questionnaire surveys,we fully understand the current situation of public space problems in primary schools, children’s feedback and needs for campus public spaces, and children’s preferences for biological design elements.Subsequently, based on the above exploration, this article applies the theory of biology to the design of primary school public spaces.Based on the characteristics of primary school campus construction and the requirements of biology design, six design principles are proposed: "environmental safety","ecological friendliness","perceived diversity","functional compatibility","emotional identity",and "spatial interest";In the specific design, three types of strategies are adopted: creating a natural ecological spatial environment, creating complex and diverse spatial functions, and creating an interesting spatial atmosphere, and specific design methods are proposed separately. Finally, taking the design project of Yantai Fulaishan Primary School as an example,we will carry out a biological design practice for public activity spaces on primary school campuses. The aim of this study is to expand the application fields of bio friendly design and enrich the design dimensions of public activity spaces in primary and secondary schools.Through systematic research, problems are discovered and analyzed, and the theory of bio friendly design is introduced to solve problems.Specific solutions for bio friendly design of public activity spaces in primary and secondary schools in high-density cities in China are explored, providing new ideas for improving the environment and creating an atmosphere for public activity spaces in primary and secondary schools.
