The system of global primary and secondary schools has experienced profound changes because of the impact of changing times on labor market and new social requirements for personnel training aims.Therefore,countries around the world begin to scrutinize education goals and directions,which promotes new educational ideas,new educational forms and new teaching and learning practices.Unavoidably,new challenges also emerge in Chinese teaching and learning space design in primary and secondary schools.For one thing,the change of primary and secondary education is well conditioned on account of the economicsocial transformation,the new round of scientific and technological revolution and people's pursuit of better education.Promoted by a series of related policies,education researchers and practitioners across the country have achieved lots of educational fruits against the shortcomings of traditional education.These fruits lead to new demands for teaching and learning space design.For another thing,problems and dilemmas exist in the design innovation of the teaching and learning space due to traditional design thinking and habits.Currently,with more prominent contradiction between the education reform and the traditional teaching and learning space design,the research on new design theories and methods is urgent.Based on the above problems,the teaching and learning space is taken as the research object from the perspective of education reform in first-tier cities.With the participation of architects,the interdisciplinary method of pedagogy and architecture is adopted,emphasizing the important role of educational factors in teaching and learning space design.Fully drew on domestic and foreign design experience,teaching and learning needs are summarized from existing domestic achievements of education reform and are taken as the pedagogical foundation and key innovating driver of teaching and learning space design,to build a theoretical framework for teaching and learning space design that adapts to education reform.Subsequently,it respectively studies the design strategies of teaching and learning space cluster,function room and common space,according to the order from macro to micro,and to the two levels of teaching and learning space framework and space elements.A theoretical and strategic system for teaching and learning space design in primary and secondary schools adapting to educational change is constructed.Consequently,the teaching and learning space research conforms to the new education reform,which supplies and furthers the entire research system of teaching and learning space of primary and secondary schools in China,providing design ideas and guidance to meet the challenges brought by the education reform to the teaching and learning space design in the new era,and contributing to exploring the future of Chinese primary and secondary schools.The content includes two parts.Part One: The Construction of Design Theory(Chapters I,II,III,IV,and V)Chapter I summarizes the research background,object,review,method,innovation points and framework.Chapter II and III,respectively sort out the education reform of(current)contemporary primary and secondary schools,development of theory and practice,new achievements and trends of teaching and learning space in 10 typical countries home and abroad,from the global perspective and by starting with the curriculum setting and teaching and learning methods that effect greatly on the teaching and learning space design in educational practice,to construct a comparative research platform for the education reform and teaching and learning space of foreign and domestic(current)contemporary primary and secondary schools.It furthers the understanding of the law of education reform and the development and innovation of the teaching and learning space,demonstrating the internal relationship and mechanism between them.Step by step,chapter IV introduces the research on teaching and learning behavior by summarizing teaching and learning methods in pedagogy according to the characteristics of architectural design research.The integration theory is applied to construct the “integration model of teaching and learning methods” which integrates the new achievements of domestic teaching and learning methods into four quadrants and summarizes teaching and learning needs adapting to education reform.Chapter V regards teaching and learning needs as an important innovation driver of teaching and learning space design to construct a theoretical framework for the design of teaching and learning space in primary and secondary schools adapting to education reform.It establishes the subject research framework by adjusting to the research on traditional teaching and learning space in terms of theoretical basis,design principles,design procedures and design contents.Part Two: Research on Design Strategies(Chapter VI,Chapter VII and Chapter VIII)Chapter VI discusses the design strategies of the teaching and learning space cluster from the perspective of the teaching and learning space framework.The concept of single “functional area” in traditional research and design has developed as the teaching and learning space cluster pattern,index interval and combination pattern adapted to education reform to provide a comprehensive framework type of teaching and learning space for diverse teaching and learning needs.Chapters VII and VIII respectively study the design strategies of the function room and common spaces from the perspective of the teaching and learning space elements.Based on 10 design principles on the teaching and learning needs,it explores the traditional teaching and learning needs and design,new teaching and learning needs and functions,functional module design and the spatial integration of functional module of each spatial element,and sort out the new functions,new positioning,new scenarios and new forms of each spatial element.In terms of the function room,the concept of “teaching and learning center” with integrated functions is proposed to replace the “special classroom” in traditional research to build a total of 15 “teaching and learning centers”.In terms of common space,design strategies about indoor open space,campus landscape and outdoor sports venues / facilities are respectively demonstrated.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes the achievements,i.e.the core content of the research,and points out the shortcomings of the research and future research prospects.
