In the 21 st century,a number of easily spread viruses have been destroying the social and productive environment, causing great damage to the world’s economy and social development, and must be taken seriously. The provision of a comfortable and healthy indoor environment in the context of home isolation or the normalisation of the fight against epidemics in conjunction with the advanced healthy building standard-the WELL standard-is a key step towards improving the human environment. In this paper,we focus on two areas: healthy building systems and retrofitting homes against epidemics, and combine existing materials and knowledge to explore more scientific and standardised guidance and initiatives in the area of retrofitting homes against epidemics.Firstly,we will explore the development and research in the field of healthy building at home and abroad and discover the existing research findings on healthy building.Secondly, the excellent healthy building systems at home and abroad are analysed, their similarities and differences as well as their characteristics are compared, the advanced experience of such systems is learnt, and the focus of this paper-the WELL healthy building system-is analysed, and the system is dissected and understood.Furthermore, the specific provisions of the WELL Healthy Building System will be studied to discover the provisions and systems relevant to epidemic-resistant housing,to provide theoretical support for a healthy environment in future epidemic-resistant housing, and to investigate the health risks faced by residents in long-term home isolation. Finally, the theoretical and practical aspects of the study are combined to propose specific retrofitting strategies for epidemic-resistant housing and to look at the future of the field.By applying the WELL theory of healthy architecture to the new context of epidemic prevention and control, new ways and directions of application of the theory of healthy architecture can be explored, and its close integration with several factors that are closely related to people in indoor spaces can further improve the formulation of guidance documents and relevant policies and regulations by the relevant government departments to promote the transformation of residential spaces for epidemic prevention and control, which is important for the scientific definition and guidance of this field. The link between practice and operation is of great significance.
