Historic Buildings is an important manifestation of the thickness and depth of a city, recording the precious historical and cultural development of the city.Handan is a city that has existed for more than 3,000 years without ever changing its name, with a profound historical and cultural heritage. The numerous historic buildings left behind in Handan reflect the city’s cultural characteristics, regional features, and stylistic information of different times. However, the rapid development of the city has gradually compressed the living space of historic buildings, causing many of them to disappear or suffer varying degrees of damage, and their architectural features have been gradually weakened.People’s perception and cognition of historic buildings have also decreased, affecting their sense of identity and belonging to the city.Preserving historic buildings, continuing their features, grasping the relationship between historic buildings and people, enhancing people’s awareness of the city, and highlighting the city’s characteristics are important issues in current historic buildings research.Existing discussions on historic buildings research mainly focus on the sensory perception and subjective experience judgment of historic buildings, and are more concerned with the current status protection of the historic buildings entity and narratological research under traditional architectural viewpoints, lacking quantitative research on the perception of historic buildings features and the relationship between the public’s perception of historic buildings. With the continuous expansion and deepening of the research field of historic buildings, and the continuous growth of research results, especially with the emergence of new theories, new technologies, and new equipment, more research methods and means are provided for us.The Internet big data,eye-tracking,and visual field analysis methods have also provided favorable conditions for the research of historic buildings in Handan. As an important sensation mode that carries information, vision plays an important role in the research of the perception of historic buildings features, and is important for the protection and renewal of historic buildings.Studying the perception features of historic buildings is not only a continuation of historic culture but also an interpretation of the historical spatial design features of the city. This thesis takes a visual perception perspective and takes the historic buildings in the core area of Handan City as the research object. The article conducts field research on historic buildings and uses a questionnaire survey to understand the public’s visual perception.Visual perception methods are used to study the perception of historic buildings, and the architectural language with high perceptibility is summarized and analyzed, and the significant features of the buildings are ranked.Based on the data analysis results of the above investigation and experimental simulation,an evaluation system for the visual perception of historic buildings features is established using the analytic hierarchy process. It is concluded that visual visibility, visual salience, and visual harmony are the three core evaluation contents in the visual perception evaluation system, which is a supplement and improvement to the existing value evaluation system. Finally, optimization strategies for historic buildings perceptibility are proposed based on the results of the evaluation system.
