With the continuous advancement of urbanization,many ancient cities in China are faced with such problems as limited development space,insufficient supporting facilities and unsatisfactory living environment.In order to meet citizens’ growing yearning for a better life,the ancient city has an increasingly strong demand for organic renewal,and the development and utilization of underground space is expected to alleviate the problems mentioned above.In view of the "irreversibility" and "post-implantation" of underground space development,it is urgent to evaluate and comprehensively optimize the exploitation potential of underground space.This paper reviews the research status of urban renewal and protection,potential evaluation of underground space development and utilization at home and abroad,and summarizes the underground space utilization mode in the process of organic renewal of ancient cities.On this basis,guided by the collaboration between organic renewal and ancient city’s underground space utilization,this paper constructs an evaluation index system of underground space development potential suitable for ancient city from two dimensions,namely the demand level of underground space from organic renewal and the suitability degree of underground space development and utilization,and establishes an evaluation method of underground space development potential based on the matching condition of development demand level and suitability degree.Taking Shaoxing Ancient City as an example,the empirical study is carried out:(1)Multi-factor comprehensive evaluation method,fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and GIS spatial analysis method were used to standardize and calculate the index,and the demand level and suitability of underground space development were obtained,so as to form the classification and spatial distribution of development potential.The evaluation results are as follows: the underground space development potential of Shaoxing ancient city can be divided into four categories,among which the priority areas for underground space development and utilization(high potential areas)are mainly concentrated in the nearby areas such as rail transit stations,public service facilities,dredging and vacated land and cultural and tourism facilities within a certain range of historical blocks.(2)Under the guidance of organic renewal of ancient city,based on the above evaluation results,the optimization utilization principle is defined and corresponding optimization utilization strategies are proposed,including: Strengthen the evaluation of the renewal and implementation of the developed underground space and the prediction of the demand scale of the underground space development,propose the overall structure of the underground space of the ancient city,explore the overall strategy of the underground space in the aspects of functional weaknesses and connecting the public space,and select the typical cases of the high potential area and the developed area to conduct the optimization strategy demonstration.And improve the implementation guarantee of the optimal utilization of underground space from three aspects: planning transmission,policy support and collaborative construction of storage.This paper proposes the evaluation method of underground space development potential of ancient cities under the guidance of organic renewal and the optimal utilization strategy of underground space.The research conclusions can provide reference for other ancient cities or historic urban areas to optimize the utilization of underground space.
