PBL(problem-based learning)refers to problem-based learning and problem-oriented learning. The PBL teaching mode is different from the traditional teaching method,as it advocates using problems to guide learning and encourages placing students in problem situations.Students can actively construct implicit knowledge of issues through independent study, cooperative inquiry, problem analysis and problem-solving.The PBL teaching model combines the subject status of the comprehensive teaching process activities to show the subjectivity of middle school students’ learning;to promote the cultivation of learning ability.Whether it is the policy orientation of vocational education or the training goal of secondary vocational students,it is required to cultivate technical talents with comprehensive competency. Therefore, the PBL teaching mode meets the requirements of secondary vocational students.Based on this fact, this paper attempts to apply the PBL model to teach Soil and Fertilizer in secondary vocational schools;and explore the value of the PBL teaching mode for students to learn soil and fertilizer science.Under the policy and realistic requirements and the current situation of teaching Soil and Fertilizer in secondary vocational schools, this paper analyzes the significance of applying the PBL teaching model to the teaching of Soil and Fertilizer in secondary vocational schools from theory and practice aspects.Through document analysis, this thesis introduces the current research status of PBL teaching mode at home and abroad. The definition of PBL-related concepts considered the researcher’s interpretations, differences between PBL teaching mode and traditional teaching method and fundamental characteristics of PBL.Instructional design and practice are based on many factors, including content features of Soil and Fertilize, the actual teaching situation and the cognitive levels of students in the second grade of a secondary vocational school where I had an internship. This instructional design focuses on the third and eighth chapters of Soil and Fertilizer and applies the PBL teaching mode. Also,a PBL-based teaching design case is born in the research process. This study compared the effect of the PBL teaching mode on teaching efficiency through observation and questionnaire surveys. After three rounds of PBL teaching mode in Soil and Fertilizer teaching practice,it is safe to draw the following conclusions.Firstly, students’ awareness of Soil and Fertilizer courses and horticulture is improved, and their enthusiasm for learning is enhanced.Secondly, the subject status of students is guaranteed, and there is a higher level of classroom participation.Thirdly, students get access to exercise and improve comprehensive capabilities such as teamwork, communication, language expression, and problem-solving skills. Finally, teachers’ organizational skills, teaching level and other teaching abilities are improved.
