| The book Empathy Brain selected for this practice report was written by a medical expert Hideho Arita.The author’s purpose in writing is that people can realize the significance of the brain mechanism that produces empathy,and that people can realize the significance of medicine when they are healthy,not just using medicine as the way of curing diseases.Therefore,how to achieve the best text effect when translating is the key point that this report focuses on.The translator discovered the text style of the book is not consistent.Selecting the preface and chapters 1-3 of the book as the translation objects,the translator tries to combine Newmark’s text type theory to summarize the process of translation practice.This practice report mainly consists of the following three parts.The first chapter mainly discusses the development of translation practice activities and the practice objects selected in this practice report.Firstly,it explains the development of this translation activity,and then analyzes the characteristics of the texts.Chapter Two discusses Newmark’s translation theory.Firstly,it will start to describe the background and development of the theory.Secondly,it discusses the applicability of Newmark’s text type theory to the text selected in this practice report.The third chapter mainly discusses Newmark’s text classification theory with examples.Informational texts which is mainly based on the principle of "truth first",Therefore,the translator uses additional illustrative translations on words,split translation and combined translation on sentences to explain a concept clearly;Next type is the expressive text which is mainly based on the principle of "author first".Therefore,the translator uses modifying translations in the content,and polish expressive words accurately so that the author’s point of view can be fully expressed;the Last one is a vocative text which is mainly based on the principle of "reader first",the translator focuses on the analysis of the title in the third part.Free translation is mainly used.In order to conform to the Chinese expression habits,the complete sentences are nominalized,and the number of characters and rhetoric are further considered to enhance the appeal of the language.Through analysis,the following three conclusions are drawn.First,informational texts are mostly explanations of proper nouns and terms,and the translation should be faithful to the original text;Second,expressive texts are mostly the elaboration of the author’s subjective opinions,so the author’s emotions and opinions must be considered;Third,vocative texts are mostly concentrated on the parts that arouse readers’ interest in reading,so the translation should be in line with the expression habits of the target language readers.In general,because the original text belongs to the social sciences text,this translation tries to pursue the simplicity of the language and the logic of the writing.Newmark’s classification of texts is based on different texts,that is,science and technology tests are informational texts,literary texts are expression texts,and advertising texts are vocative texts.However,through this report,the translator found that one piece of work may also contain different text types.By categorizing the same text in advance,applicable translation methods can be quickly adopted for each type of text and the translation efficiency can be improved.At the same time,the translator hope that in the future,this report can be useful to those translator who need to translate texts in various styles. |
