A Report On C-E Simultaneous Interpreting Of The 2020 Wuhou District Promotion Meeting Under The Guidance Of The Effort Model

Interpreting,at present,is a popular communicative tool for people from different regions to realize better communication in the trend of globalization.Among all modes of interpreting,simultaneous interpreting plays a crucial part in foreign communication.On November 17,2020,in the China Building Economy Global Cooperation Conference,a special promotion meeting for industrial function zones was held in Wuhou District,Chengdu.This meeting gave detailed introductions to the economic,cultural,and historical sectors of the region,with the purpose of attracting more overseas companies to invest in this area.The author had the opportunity to do simultaneous interpreting for this meeting.Therefore,this report analyzes the specific difficulties encountered by the author in the process of this SI in view of the Effort Model.Then from the perspective of this model,the author finds the main reasons behind these difficulties and conclude some helpful tactics.The Effort Model proposed by Daniel Gile elaborates the problem of imbalanced energy allocations that may occur in the interpreting process.Therefore,the author does a thorough study of the Effort Model to understand the main factors that affect interpreter’s output,and then analyzes the relationships between these factors.After that,the author conducts a case analysis to find out the difficulties in SI as well as the reasons behind these difficulties and summarizes some helpful tactics to improve the outcome of interpreting.Through the analysis,the following findings are analyzed in this report.First of all,the main problems in this SI include limited short-term memory,comprehension obstacles,and lack of logic in target language.Secondly,under the guidance of the Effort Model,the reasons behind these difficulties can be generalized as deficient capacity of processing and excessive cognitive load.Last,the coping tactics to these interpreting difficulties are anticipation,simplification,chunking and conversion.This report aims at analyzing the imbalanced energy allocations in this simultaneous interpreting,thus summarizing some useful interpreting tactics,and providing references for interpreters.
