A Report On E-C Translation Of Popular Science Text Of Cleaning Your Mental Mess Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

The public’s psychological problems have been prominent amid the prevailing epidemic.General Secretary Xi Jinping(2017)has put forward on the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that “strengthening the system of social psychological services and strengthening positive social mentality of the students with the self-esteem,self-reliance,rational peace".In this context,the author translates Cleaning Your Mental Mess(excerpt)in the guidance of communicative translation theory and attempts to discuss the translation of popular science texts.Based on neuroscience,Cleaning Your Mental Mess provides the public with the scientific prevention and treatment method,that is,the five-step neurocycle method.This popular science work involves many professional terms.The text features scientific nature in content and popularity in expression which is manifested in rigorous logic,acceptable expression.This work aims to ensure that readers accept and understand the scientific method of mental care.Therefore,the author attempts to reproduce the reading effect of the original text through the following three aspects in the translation task,that is,scientific accuracy,tight logic,and acceptable expression.Therefore,according to the difficulties of translating science texts,the author chooses Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the guidance of the task.According to Peter Newmark’s translation theory,the original text features information text,thus communicative translation theory is applicable to this task.In addition,the theory seeks to reproduce in the target language reader the same effect as in the source language reader.This task attempts to solve the problems in the translation of popular science works under the guidance of communicative translation theory,that is,to reproduce the concise and easy-to-understand reading effect as much as possible on the premise of ensuring scientificity and popularity,and to adapt to the reading habits and cultural background of the target language readers.Therefore,the intention of this theory fits the purpose of this translation task.This paper will discuss the translation problems from three dimensions:scientific accuracy,tight logic,and acceptable expression.Guided by the theory of communicative translation,the translator solved the problem of translating terms,long sentences,metaphors,and idioms in this task by using the methods of amplification,division,shift,and so on.This translation task gives full play to the guiding role of communicative translation in the translation of popular science texts and achieves the balance between scientific nature and the popularity of popular science works.
