| The author of this paper has chosen to translate The Report on the State of World Population 2022 published by the United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA),which provides an overview of the situation of unintended pregnancies in countries around the world in 2022.In the process of translating the Report,the author recorded various translation difficulties encountered,and found that comparative sentences appear very frequently in this material and have a variety of complex patterns,so translating comparative sentences from English to Chinese becomes the main research topic of this paper.The study of English comparative sentences in academia mainly focuses on their classification,but the translation methods corresponding to each classification have not yet been summarized in a comprehensive manner.For translation practice,how exactly should English comparative sentences be classified?How should each category of comparative sentences be translated?These are still questions worth studying.In this paper,an approach of case study is adopted.Based on Yuan Changming’s classification of English comparative sentences,the author records all the comparative sentences in the material,categorizes each of them,counts the frequency of each category of comparative sentences,analyzes and summarizes the translation methods applicable to each category,in order to provide some useful references for future translation practice.However,since this paper is a case study,the conclusions drawn herein may not be applicable to all text types and contexts,so translators need to analyze each case specifically and adopt appropriate translation methods. |
