| Artificial intelligence has been widely applied in the field of modern education.Therefore,it is particularly meaningful to conduct further research into the Chinese translation of artificial intelligence popularization for educators,which will contribute to the promotion of artificial intelligence education in China.This translation practice concerning the first two chapters of the science popularization book AI for School Teachers,is commissioned by the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Jilin Institute of Chemical Technology.It is an informative popular science text that includes the definition and significance of artificial intelligence,as well as the challenges facing school teachers.The word count of the final Chinese text is 14,577,meeting the requirements of translation practice reports for MTI graduates.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the translator comprehensively analyzes translation practice from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse in the report.At lexical translation level,the translator adopts methods such as contextual word choice,semantic extension,and part of speech conversion to solve the problem of polysemy and flexibility of wording so as to achieve accurate translation.At syntactical translation level,the translator adopts methods such as voice conversion,word order adjustment,and long sentence splitting to solve the problem of passive voice and complex sentences so as to ensure reasonable and orderly sentences.At discourse translation level,the translator adopts methods such as pronoun reference and conjunction omission to solve the problem of vague pronoun application and differentiate logic usage so as to accomplish discourse coherence and expressiveness.This practice fully utilizes professional dictionaries and online tools for the professionalism and readability of the translation.Through case analysis and comparison,this report deftly applied communicative translation theory to the translation of informative popular science text,conveying information with clarity and precision,achieving“communicative” purpose,and ensuring harmony between the source language and the target language.The report aims to strengthen the scientific guidance of communicative translation theory for informative popular science text,generalize the main features of the text,summarize translation approaches,accumulate translation experience,and improve translation skills.It is expected that the translation practice can add to the existing information resources on artificial intelligence for educators,and inspire future translation attempts that deal with similar texts. |
