A Report On E-C Translation Of Financial News In The Economist Guided By CEA Framework

This is an English-Chinese translation report on financial news.The original materials are selected from the Finance&Economics column of The Economist.The author has been an intern at the translation practice group of China Daily from October to December 2022.A total of 22 articles were translated in her internship,including 7 financial news articles,on which the author wrote this translation report.Guided by the framework of "Comprehension,Expression,and Adaptation"(CEA)proposed by Li Changshuan,this report centers on the analysis of the whole translation process,and discusses the problems encountered in translation and their solutions.The comprehension part mainly focuses on words,phrases,sentences and texts;expression includes word selection,translation strategies and avoiding Europeanized Chinese in the process of translation.The adaptation part includes addition,deletion and interpretation in translation.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter gives an introduction to the translation background,significance and structure of the report.Chapter two introduces the translation process,including preparations before translation,the problems encountered in the practice and the solutions to them,and the revisions after translation.Chapter three is the literature review,including the introduction and application of CEA framework.Chapter four is case study.The last chapter concludes the achievements and limitations of this translation report.By writing this report,the author has realized that comprehension,expression and adaptation are indispensable parts of translation.Most translation learners usually put emphasis on conveying translation skills for inter-language conversion instead of strengthening the comprehension for the original text,which is the basis of translation.If the original text cannot be correctly understood,no matter how advanced the expression skills are,the original text will be misinterpreted.Expression is also an important procedure that tests the translator’s language ability and logical ability.When the translator cannot find an appropriate expression method,he can adjust the content and expression of the original text to better convey the information of the original text.The author expects that this report can help herself to accumulate some experience,improve her translation ability and encourage other translation learners to have a deeper understanding of financial translation,and get more people familiar with CEA framework.
