The thesis is a translation practice report. The source text is selected from Chapter6 of Psychoanalysis and Digital Culture: Audiences,Social Media and Big Data.By drawing on the concept of perversion in psychoanalysis, the source text demonstrates that users are both loved and abused by contemporary digital media, which represents a perverse relationship in the process of data mining.Furthermore, the source text argues that the data mining practice on digital media interacts with individual subjectivity. The source text is an interdisciplinary monograph with abstract content, strong logic, formal style, rigorous wording, and complex and varied sentence structures.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, seven translation techniques, such as amplification, conversion, polysemy, reduplication and repetition, cutting, reorganizing and inserting are employed in the translation practice,so as to ensure that the target text accurately and naturally conveys the meaning of the source text. The thesis discusses the applicability of functional equivalence theory in the translation of such scientific texts, focusing on the application of seven translation techniques in three aspects, namely the selection of word meaning, the analysis of sentence structure and the consistency of style.Amplification can semantically complement the target text by adding the necessary information;conversion highlights the dynamic characteristic of Chinese;polysemy makes the target text more accurate and vivid;reduplication and repetition not only emphasize the important information in the source text, but also give expression to the rhythm of Chinese;cutting and reorganizing have a great impact on the understanding of the narrative logic of the source text;and inserting diversifies the sentence patterns of the target text. The conclusion shows that functional equivalence theory has guiding significance for the translation of the interdisciplinary monograph.
