A Report On C-E Translation Of 2021 Shouguang City Government Work Report

In recent years,with the rapid economic development of various parts of China,local government work reports,besides central government work reports,have drawn extensive attention from the rest of the world.Government work reports cover the latest development information in China’s politics,economy,society,culture,and their English translation plays an important role in enhancing international reputation,improving investment environment,and promoting the development of social,economic,and cultural undertakings.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the language characteristics and translation methods of this type of text.The translation of the 2021 Shouguang City Government Work Report is conducted from the perspective of the Skopos Theory.The translator attempts to explore the translation strategies of government work reports with regional characteristics by analyzing the translation of special language forms such as cultural-loaded nouns,numerical abbreviations,conceptual metaphors,four-character phrases,run-on sentences,and non-subject sentences.Through the translation,the translator hopes to provide the world with a new perspective to understand China,carry forward regional characteristic culture,and further promote the implementation of the “Going Global” strategy.Some findings are made in the translation.First,the Skopos Theory is of practical and guiding significance for the translation of government work reports.Second,different translation strategies such as amplification,omission,conversion,and combination should be flexibly adopted for various expression forms.Third,the use of conjunction,reference,substitution,and other cohesive devices is effective to make the target text more coherent and logical,and further improves the translation quality.Given the above findings,the translator hopes that the report will be a useful reference for the translation of local government work reports in the future.
