Abstract/Summary:
The modal verb is a special type of word in Chinese,which has always been a key and difficult point for international students when learning Chinese.As one of the most frequently used modal verbs,"yao"is essential for international students to master its relevant knowledge points.Thailand is one of the countries that are most enthusiastic about learning Chinese.With the continuous deepening of economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries,a considerable number of Chinese volunteer teachers are sent to Thailand every year to teach Chinese.More and more native Thai speakers are also beginning to learn Chinese.However,due to factors such as negative transfer of their mother tongue and the complexity of"yao",Thai native speakers often make various errors in the process of"yao"acquisition.This article provides a classification and explanation of the meaning and usage of the four modal senses of"yao",and compares them with other Chinese modal verbs that are easily confused with"yao",as well as the corresponding forms of"yao"in Thai.Next,the biased corpus collected from the corpus was sorted and classified,and it was found that"yao"had the highest proportion of errors in substitution,followed by errors in addition,omissions in the third place,and errors in order and negation were the lowest.In terms of the proportion of errors in the various meanings of"yao","yao 2">"yao 1">"yao 3">"yao 4".Based on the comparison of errors between Thai native speakers and English native speakers,the causes of their errors were explored from the perspectives of negative transfer of mother tongue,generalization of target language rules,complexity of"yao",textbooks,and teachers.Finally,based on the situation and causes of errors in the acquisition of"yao"by Thai native speakers,some suggestions are put forward for teachers’teaching and textbook writing,in order to provide some useful references and references for teaching the modal verb"yao"in Thai Chinese language teaching.
