| Based on the translation of AI-related news commentaries under the“Technology” column of Scientific American,this practice report adopts the Skopos theory as guidance to explore translation of tech news in the new stage of science communication,aiming to summarize difficulties and corresponding solutions in the translation of news texts related to emerging AI industry,so as to provide reference for translation of new-tech texts.This report firstly introduces Hans Vermeer’s translation theories,and,combined with the translation purpose of the project and the new requirements of scientific translation in the new stage,puts forward three focuses of this translation practice,namely,the informativity,accuracy and readability.Next,under the framework of Skopos theory,the translator summarizes the translation difficulties such as terminology,headline and text readability,and proposes corresponding solutions and strategies.For the translation of terminology,priority is given to established translation or transference,and annotation is added to help readers better understand.For the translation of headline,it is proposed to use close-to-life words,turn static expression into dynamic expression and utilize numbers.For the improvement of text readability,it is suggested to add related information and transfer positive rhetoric into negative rhetoric.These methods are adopted to ensure the effectiveness of information transmission and the accuracy and readability of translation,so as to better achieve the expected purpose of target texts. |
