The quality of consecutive interpretation will be affected by many factors.Speakers quote a large number of idioms with Chinese characteristics, which will greatly affect the accuracy of information and the fluency of language in ChineseEnglish consecutive translation. The consecutive interpretation of Chinese idioms has high requirements for the translator’s language ability, the store of knowledge,on-the-spot response and psychological quality.Through experimental research, this paper aims to explore how the quality of consecutive output will be affected when translators encounter a large number of Chinese idioms, analyze the root causes, find consecutive interpretation skills and improve the quality of translation, which is of great significance to the practice of translators’ interpretation. This study uses an interview about the “double reduction policy” education policy as the experimental corpus, and the speaker quotes various types of idioms. The text answers the following questions: 1)what difficulties will the interpreter encounter in the consecutive interpretation of Chinese idioms? 2)What are the reasons for the influence of Chinese idioms on the quality of consecutive interpretation? 3)Can the skills of consecutive interpretation such as literal translation, free translation, the conversion of metaphor objects, simplifying improve the quality of interpretation? Under the guidance of interpretive theory, this experiment invites 10 graduate students majoring in English Interpretation from the Institute of foreign languages as experimental subjects, which are divided into experimental group and control group for comparative experimental research.Through the experimental analysis, the author finds that the difficulties caused by the interpreter in the C-E consecutive interpretation of Chinese idioms mainly include: cultural vacancy, language differences and flexible variants.Secondly, the text analysis of test points is carried out on the literal translation of consecutive interpretation skills, free translation, the conversion of metaphor objects, simplifying.Thirdly, the translation quality of the translators in the experimental group and the control group is evaluated in terms of information accuracy and language fluency. The study found that the translation quality of the experimental group using Chinese idiom interpretation skills is higher than that of the control group without Chinese idiom interpretation skills.Chinese idiom interpretation skills can effectively improve the information accuracy and language fluency of the translation. In short, this experiment adopts the research method of combining experimental method and interviewing method.Through the qualitative and quantitative analysis of statistical data and specific cases, this paper summarizes the skills that can help translators deal with the difficulties encountered by translators in the interpretation of Chinese idioms. The author hopes that this experiment can provide some reference for interpretation teaching and students’ interpretation learning.
