| This thesis is a translation report. The source text of the translation project is chapter seven and ten of the book “Medical and Mental Health During Childhood: Psychosocial Perspectives and Positive Outcomes”,a medical publication providing a very detailed introduction of mental diseases in childhood. This book consists of eleven chapters. Each chapter includes an overview of the disease, psychosocial and emotional functioning, treatment and intervene therapy. The selected seventh and tenth chapters are about the symptoms and diagnose of anxiety and hyperactivity disorder that are two common mental disorders in children, the suggestions on disease management and medications. This report presents a detailed discussion on the translation problems and corresponding solutions during the translation process which was guided by Skopos Theory. The problems encountered are categorized into three parts: problems on lexical level, syntactic level and problems on textual level. For problems on lexical level, some translation techniques like free translation and replacement are proposed. For problems on syntactic level, such translation methods as conversion of part of speech, amplification, and restructuring are applied. For problems;on textual level, translation focused cvon the sentence conjunction based on the sense groups. It is found through the analysis of specific cases that Skopos theory has guiding significance for this translation. With the help of the mentioned-theory,the translator uses different methods and skills to solve the problems on three levels and tries to make the translated version well understood by the target readers.Besides, the major findings in this report may serve as reference for other translators when they are translating the texts of the similar type. |
