Yunnan is a major tobacco province in China and has the reputation of " The best tobacco in China".As a pillar industry in Yunnan,the tobacco industry is closely related to the lives of Yunnan people,and has had an important impact on Yunnans economy,politics,society and culture.The period of the Republic of China was an important development stage for the Yunnan tobacco industry.The introduction of flue-cured tobacco changed the tobacco planting structure,solved the key raw material problem that hindered the development of the tobacco industry,and promoted the rise of the tobacco processing industry and the tobacco trade market.During the period of the Republic of China,Yunnan tobacco industry "started from nothing,from existence to excellence",not only played an important role at that time,but also further laid a solid and necessary development foundation for Yunnans modern tobacco industry,and promoted the development pattern of China’s tobacco industry from " " Shanghai,Qingdao and Tianjin" has changed to a new pattern of "Yunnan,Guizhou and Shanghai".This paper uses the method of historical geography to restore the development,changes and spatial distribution of the tobacco industry in Yunnan during the Republic of China,and explores the factors that affect the temporal and spatial pattern of the tobacco industry,in order to enrich the research on the tobacco industry in Yunnan.The geographical environment has a great influence on the planting and growth of tobacco,and geographical factors such as climatic conditions,soil conditions and topography directly determine the distribution,yield and quality of tobacco.The unique geographical environment provides important basic conditions for the development of the tobacco industry in Yunnan.However,due to the backwardness of society and economy,although tobacco was introduced into Yunnan earlier,tobacco production did not develop significantly until the Republic of China.During the period of the Republic of China,firstly,the tobacco planting industry had great development,mainly reflected in three aspects: the expansion of planting area,the increase of tobacco planting counties and the change of tobacco planting structure after the successful introduction of flue-cured tobacco.The distribution change of suncured tobacco planting area is a further development on the basis of the distribution pattern in the Qing Dynasty,while the flue-cured tobacco planting area gradually expanded from Kunming to the whole province.On the whole,the tobacco planting area in Yunnan Province has further expanded,and the evolution of its distribution pattern roughly shows a dynamic trajectory from "point-like" to "plane-like".The scattered "point-like" distribution pattern gradually developed into a "plane-like" distribution pattern that basically spread throughout the province in the later period of the Republic of China.Secondly,the tobacco processing industry and trade market further developed.During the period of the Republic of China,Yunnans traditional shredded tobacco industry had a new development,and its distribution range had expanded,forming the main producing areas of handmade shredded tobacco such as Tonghai and Mengzi.Due to changes in tobacco consumption habits and tobacco production methods,the cigarette industry has risen and grown rapidly,which has prompted the distribution of the tobacco processing industry to change from a distribution based on resources to a distribution based on distribution and consumption.The cigarette processing industry is concentrated in Kunming.During the period of the Republic of China,Yunnans tobacco trade was dominated by intra-provincial trade,forming a tobacco trade market centered on Kunming.With the development of the provinces tobacco industry,the proportion of tobacco export increased,and the export was mainly flue-cured tobacco.Finally,the dynamic changes and spatial characteristics,showing a saddle-shaped development trajectory;from the perspective of space,the tobacco industry as a whole has The distribution decreases from east to west,forming a spatial distribution pattern of "dense in the east and sparse in the west".At the same time,the spatial imbalance of the tobacco industry is relatively prominent,and the differences between different regions in the province are obvious.From Kunming in central Yunnan to Mengzi in southeastern Yunnan is the most developed area of the tobacco industry,while Kunming is the core of the tobacco industry in Yunnan.City.The formation of the temporal and spatial pattern of the tobacco industry in Yunnan during the Republic of China was the result of the interaction between "space" and "time".The natural geographical environment determined the basic appearance of the tobacco industry,and the development of the tobacco industry changed with the changes of the social environment such as
