| China is a country with a variety of dialects, there are objectively unique cultural forms and thinking patterns, and the cultural characteristics carried by the language characteristics of market participants will play a certain role in the regional industrial and economic activities. The adjustment of national industrial structure is the key to accelerate economic development, and under the background that the regional integration strategy of the Yangtze River Delta has become a national strategy,it is extremely urgent to realize the upgrading of the industrial structure of the Yangtze River Delta. In this context, exploring the impact of the diversity of dialects in the Yangtze River Delta region on the upgrading of industrial structure can help us better understand the relationship between China’s unique cultural environment and economic activities.First of all, based on the existing research, this paper expounds the concept of industrial structure upgrading, summarizes the theory and measurement index of industrial structure upgrading, and summarizes the mechanism of dialect acting on economic related factors.Secondly,it summarizes the status quo of urban economic and industrial development, relevant policies and regional cultural differences in the Yangtze River Delta, and puts forward theoretical hypotheses.Then,34 cities in the Yangtze River Delta from 2000 to 2019 were selected as samples for empirical analysis to explore the impact of urban dialect diversity on the upgrading of industrial structure in the Yangtze River Delta, and the mediation effect test was conducted to analyze the mechanism of the impact of dialect diversity on the upgrading of industrial structure through the intermediary variable of market segmentation. In the heterogeneity analysis, the samples were divided into large and small cities and three provinces and one city for analysis respectively, and the system GMM was used to carry out endogeneity test with explained variables lagging one order as instrumental variables, and the robustness test of explanatory variables and explained variables were replaced to draw conclusions and put forward suggestions. The empirical research shows that: first, the diversity of urban dialects in the Yangtze River Delta region hinders the upgrading of urban industrial structure in the region;Second, the mediating effect test shows that this effect is mainly due to the hindering effect of dialects on market integration. The more diverse urban dialects are,the more serious the market segmentation is,and the less conducive to industrial transformation and upgrading.Thirdly, through heterogeneity analysis,it is found that for cities of different sizes, the diversity of dialects inhibits the rationalization of industrial structure, but the magnitude of the effect is different. And in three provinces and one city dialect diversity in different provinces and cities in the upgrading of industrial structure, the influence of diversity in Zhejiang dialect has inhibitory effect on the upgrading of industrial structure, but this inhibitory effect is not significant in Anhui province, and in Jiangsu,Shanghai dialect diversity showed to upgrade the industrial structure.Based on the above conclusions, this paper puts forward relevant suggestions, hoping to provide reference for the industrial transformation and upgrading of the Yangtze River Delta. |
