Today’s world is undergoing a new round of change, and we need to find new engines of development for the global economy.Promoting the transformation of clean energy and the energy revolution, and achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals is the only way for the sustainable development of the global environment, economy and society. Therefore, studying and translating social and scientific texts about energy transformation is helpful to learn from the experience of other countries, and has theoretical and practical significance. This paper is a translation report on energy transition text E-C translation. The source text is excerpted partly from the first four chapters of Transitions in Energy Efficiency and Demand.According to Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory, the source text can be defined as an informative text, which focuses on the expression of topics rather than forms. The language is concise and logical, and its main function is to convey text information and ideas. In view of that, the translation of informative texts should convey the original information and ideas through plain prose. The translation difficulties are mainly reflected at the lexical level and syntactic level. On the lexical level,it mainly involves the translation of professional vocabulary and semi-professional vocabulary;on the syntactic level, there are difficulties in dealing with passive voice, nominalized structures, sentences with inanimate subjects and complex sentences.Based on the analysis of the characteristics of the source text and the difficulties of translation,a variety of translation techniques such as omission, addition, conversion, and splitting and recasting are employed in the E-C translation process to deal with translation difficulties.Throughout the translation practice, the following three issues are mainly solved in the translation practice:1.How to accurately identify the main text type of the source text under the guidance of Reiss’ s Text Typology Theory?2.Whether the translation technique of domestication or foreignization should be applied to informative texts?3.How to use appropriate translation methods to solve translation difficulties and achieve the accurate convey of the information and ideas of the source text? This report includes five parts. In the first part, the background and basic information of the source text are outlined. In the second part, the translator makes a description of the translator’s preparation and translation process of this project. The third part introduces the guiding theory used in the translation. In the fourth part, the difficulties encountered in translation are analyzed in detail. The translation strategies applied in the process are also analyzed by examples. The last part is a conclusion of this report. It summarizes the major findings and limitations of the translation. |
