| Chinese character teaching is essential in teaching Chinese to foreigners,which affects the further development of Chinese language teaching directly.The present study aims to investigate and analyse the teaching of Chinese characters for learners at beginning level among different ages(primary,secondary and adult)in Korea and make recommendations respectively.The author took the opportunity of teaching Chinese in Korea to observe students’ learning of Chinese characters in the classroom and communicate with the Chinese teacher as volunteers.On this basis,a set of questionnaires was created.As a result,teaching suggestions were put forward and teaching plans were designed.The questionnaire was made from two dimensions which includes the teaching of Chinese characters in the classroom by Korean teachers and the degree of learning of Chinese characters by students.The results of questionnaire show that Korean teachers do not pay enough attention to Chinese characters.They choose teaching methods randomly.Teaching strokes is a difficult point and teaching pictograms accounts for a large proportion of the teaching.Students prefer multimedia tools.It also shows that primary students enjoy watching animated Chinese characters,secondary school students enjoy group games,and adults enjoy listening to Chinese character stories.Based on the analysis of the questionnaire,this study makes the following recommendations : The teaching of Chinese characters in Korean primary schools should develop syllabuses,supplement teaching materials,lay more stress on strokes and stroke order teaching,use a variety of teaching methods,make good use of students’ interests,and review in a timely manner.Chinese character teaching in secondary schools should be increased,teaching methods should be adjusted,multimedia technology should be required,and students’ competitive mentality should be fully utilized.The teaching of Chinese characters to adults should consider their age,enhance classroom interest,use Chinese character stories and make use of Chinese character game software.The present study has theoretical implications for teaching Chinese characters to Chinese learners at beginning level in Korea.It also has implications for the teaching of Chinese characters to different age groups at foreign countries. |
