An interpreter is a bridge linking two parties of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. In a consecutive interpreting task, interpreters should convey the meaning of the speaker in a natural and fluent target language. In an interpreting task, interpreters would inevitably encounter speakers with various accents.According to Gill’s Effort Model,English with accents will greatly enhance the difficulty of listening, and interpreters need to allocate a lot of energy to this part, leading to the compromising of interpreting quality. This practice report will use an online interpreting audio record as a corpus to study the influence of Filipino English accent on consecutive interpreting. This is a distance interpreting task of the University of Baguio in the Philippines. The main task of the interpreters is to facilitate some doctoral students who are less linguistically competent in English to better comprehend and communicate with their professors during this program. This is a long-term task, with each assignment lasting more than a month. For this particular interpreting assignment, the Filipino English accent was the biggest challenge during the author’s interpreting.Due to the accent problem, the author had to ask the speaker for several times what he was saying, thus the progress was hindered. But after a period of time, the author found that there are certain rules to follow in terms of Filipino accents,so she began to summarize those patterns and put them into practice, which can indeed help interpreters quickly overcome the challenge brought by Filipino accents. Therefore, the author decided to discuss the topic of the influence of English accent on interpretation and summarize the rule of the Philippine English accent. And under the guidance of Schema theory, the author discusses how interpreters should use the three kinds of Schema including language schema, content schema, and formal schema to prepare for the interpretation of the source language with accents.
