| As beautiful new cards for China’s opening-up and an important platform for international exchanges and cooperation,the World Manufacturing Convention(WMC),and the World Conference on Display Industry have all been held in Anhui province in the year 2021.The importance of this central province in the international communication of China manifests itself more and more along the construction of a world-class innovative and productive region.The Work Report of Anhui Provincial People’s Government in 2021 is a typical piece of political text centering on the works and future aims of this area with formal and strict language style.Its unique stylistic and linguistic features bring certain difficulties to translation as well as great materials to translation study.This translation report analyzes the English translation of the Work Report of Anhui Provincial People’s Government in 2021 based on the principles of semantic translation and communicative translation,and selects representative cases for study.In Newmark’s opinion,semantic translation is mainly used for expressive texts,while communicative translation is used for informative and vocative texts.They are not mutually exclusive,but should be mutually integrated in the translation process.Under the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory,the English translation strategies of Chinese political texts can be divided into two categories:literal translation and free translation,and the specific translation techniques that should be adopted include amplification,omission,conversion and reconstruction.The purpose of this paper is to explore how Newmark translation theory can be combined with specific political texts translation projects in practice,so as to enrich this kind of translation practice research at the same time,promote the understanding of Anhui province,an important province in the Central China,and make a contribution to the promotion of external publicity and foreign investment of this region. |
