The 21st century has witnessed the transformation of the objective of China’s higher education towards the cultivation of high-quality talents.Therefore,it has become a significant mission for the country and an important topic for exports and scholars to promote higher education reform and build a great power in higher education.The translation practice report selects Chapters 6 and 7 of Higher Expectations:Can Colleges Teach Students What They Need to Know in the 21st Century?,the latest pedagogical work written by the American educator Derek Bok as the original text.The work mainly focuses on the American higher education reform by means of cultivating students’non-cognitive skills.Based on its features of numerous pedagogical terms and proper words and rich and diverse sentential forms,the text is mainly analyzed from lexical level and syntactic level.In terms of the translation of words,the translator adopts the following translation methods:extension,diction,amplification and conversion.In terms of the translation of long sentences,the translator employs the following translation methods:inversion,division,combination and mixture.It is hoped that this report can not only inspire new ideas for China’s education reform,but provide reference for the translation of pedagogical texts.
