| This report is a case study of the translation of Wonderful Haiyuan(excerpts)under the guidance of Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation.The source text includes Chapter 7 and Chapter 8.Based on the problems and difficulties in the translation of the publicity texts,the translator proposes solutions.The selected chapters focus on the translation of the 1920 Haiyuan earthquake ruins,a rare site in the world,and the Nanhua Mountains,a scenery spot in Haiyuan County.It is both a publicity text and an information text.Therefore,the translation needs to be faithful to the original text.Besides,the translator should take the readers’sense of experience into consideration.What’s more,the author combs the translation of publicity text in the literature review and finds the points to be noted in it.In the case analysis,the author analyzes the cases at the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.The semantic translation is utilized at the lexical and syntactic levels,while communicative translation is applied at the syntactic and textual levels.The translator uses translation techniques to translate the text,such as literal translation,free translation,transliteration,annotation,omission and reorganization.In conclusion,the author summarizes the gains,findings and limitations of this translation practice. |
