| Nowadays,the interaction between China and the rest of the world is becoming more and more frequent thanks to the development of globalization,which leads to the connection of culture.The exchange of various kinds of culture in this literary form of social science texts promotes the dissemination of culture and is also a good way to introduce outstanding Chinese talents to the world directly and visually,which makes translation more important than before.Under such a background,this translation practice describes the whole process of translating the chapter 2 of the book,Education in Republic of China,most of which includes the biography of the educationalists at that time.The translating materials chosen for this translation project describe the hard but great educational career of the four well-known educators,who are Yan Yangchu,Tao Xingzhi,Huang Yanpei and Yan Xiu.The writing style of this text is simple and vivid,and both “documentary” and “artistic”.Biography is characterized by their authenticity and another distinguishing feature is vividness.The main characters and events must be in accordance with historical facts and no fiction is allowed.This translation report emphasizes the guiding role of Functional Equivalence Theory in translation practice and aims to promote a better understanding of this translation theory among students and enthusiasts of English translation.At the same time,it provides some references for future biographical translations by analyzing and researching the text through the aspects of vocabulary,syntax,and so on.This report is divided into five parts: First,the translator introduces the task.Second,the translator thoroughly introduces the theoretical framework of this translation practice.Third,the translator mentioned the whole process of the project.Fourth,it is the core part of the thesis,which is case analysis: Analyzing the translation strategies of biography under the guidance of Functional Equivalence.The last part is the conclusion,which includes the major findings,limitations and some inspirations and expectations out of the practice. |
