| This translation practice is based on the Chinese translation of Becoming and Being an Applied Linguist. It is an academic biography which collects the professional autobiographies of 13 famous applied linguists.Taking the autobiographies of Rod Ellis,Paul Nation,J.Charles Alderson and Peter Skehan as examples, the report aims to discuss the translation difficulties and strategies employed to translate this type of text and to provide reference for relevant academic autobiography translation. This translation practice is conducted under the guidance of skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule of Skopos theory.Based on typical cases, the author analyzes how to solve the translation difficulties from the three perspectives,in order to enhance the readability and acceptability of the translation and realize the communicative function of the translation.Through the contrastive analysis of the translated texts, the author finds that the three principles of Skopos theory provide significant reference for choosing appropriate translation methods and techniques.Under the guidance of skopos rule, the author adopts literal translation with annotation to explain the culture-loaded words and applied linguistics terms, and free translation to translate the content which cannot be accurately expressed in literal translation. On the basis of coherence rule, the author makes an in-depth contrastive analysis of the differences between Chinese and English, and adopts addition, omission and word order adjustment to make the translation accord with the habits of Chinese expression.Under the guidance of fidelity rule, the author adopts addition to further supplement the pronouns and nouns with specific reference in the source text so as to achieve interlingual correspondence between the source text and the target text. |
