At present, economic development is followed not only by people’s pursuit of material life, but also by constant questioning of spiritual satisfaction, which is also an important reason for the vigorous development of exhibition space in various regions. However, the rapid development is accompanied by the homogenization of exhibition space and the "blindness" brought by exhibits with different "personalities" in the space, which directly leads to the viewer’s extremely poor sense of experience.Today, natural light and shadow is still regarded as the "soul" and "spirit" of architectural space, and it is still an important factor that distinguishes one space from another; With the development of technology, artificial light with different forms and functions gradually gets rid of the shackles of "inferior to natural light and shadow".With its unique characteristics such as high flexibility and strong operability,it is favored and pursued by more and more designers. Therefore, based on the theory of visual perception, this paper attempts to explore the application of light and shadow in the exhibition space from the perspective of individual psychological feelings, and tries to reveal the relationship between light and shadow and exhibits, space and even viewers under this theory.Firstly, through the field investigation of many excellent exhibition spaces in China and the analysis of a large number of excellent cases at home and abroad, this paper comes to the conclusion that light and shadow are not only expressed in the space in the form of "point","line","surface" and "body",but also in the space through the combination with color and material, and different forms of expression give birth to different visual perception emotions.Secondly, using virtual reality to let individuals feel the changes of light and shadow in the exhibition space through the screening of factor coincidence rate, quantify the changes of visual perception caused by light and shadow changes through the questionnaire and SD semantic difference method, and analyze the data in combination with the actual situation of the exhibition space; Finally, the application method of light and shadow in the exhibition space from the perspective of visual perception theory is obtained, which is expounded and analyzed through excellent cases, and applied through a complete exhibition space design.Based on the theory of visual perception,at the exhibit level, the relationship between light and shadow and the bottom of the exhibit can help it form a good visual focus. At the same time, the visual attraction of the exhibit can be purposefully changed by adjusting the relative volume, relative brightness and relative color tendency of light and shadow; At the spatial level, the material can present different visual perception by adjusting the brightness and weakness of light and shadow,so as to affect the individual’s psychological feeling of space, render different atmospheres of space by adjusting the brightness and weakness of light and shadow and presentation form, and help the space "release" emotion by adjusting the color tendency of light and shadow; At the viewer level, light and shadow can help visitors effectively and clearly receive exhibition information.Through the "bridge" function of light and shadow, they can have a profound connection with exhibits and space, and make visitors become a part of the "exhibition",so as to deepen their sense of participation and experience.
