The source material of this simultaneous interpretation project is excerpted from the keynote speech of the 2021 International Forum on China Aviation Special Cargo Development and Transportation Safety held in Shanghai on June 23,2021.It mainly reported on China’s past and present work related to air freight. This forum was aimed to discuss feasible solutions to develop air freight and promote the steady improvement of international air freight capability with the combination of superior resources domestically and internationally. The speakers used a lot of long sentences in their speeches to elaborate the policies and measures related to air freight, which cause difficulties to the interpreter’s short-term memory and the transformation and expression of the target language, resulting in poor quality of interpretation. After summary and reflection, the author divided the Chinese long sentences causing difficulties in this task into simple long sentences with a long prepositional adverbial,run-on sentences, and complex long sentences. To cope with the above difficulties, the author chose the French Interpretive Theory as the theoretical support to improve the quality of interpreting and to achieve a better effect of simultaneous interpretation. The Interpretive Theory considers that the process of interpretation includes three stages, such as comprehension, deverblization and reformulation, that is,the interpreter should comprehend the verbal signs which expresses ideas, and forget their structures immediately and consciously, then reformulate a new sentence in another language.Guided by this theory, the author has proposed the following coping tactics for the difficulties encountered in this simulated practice: 1)anticipation and restructuring;2)division and simplification;addition and combination;3)omission and generalization. This task enables the author to deeply realize the guiding role of the Interpretive Theory in Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpretation. It is hoped that the results of this practice can provide some reference to other learners in this field when they encounter similar problems. |
