Globalization and multinationals seem to have contributed to the coordinated growth of the world economy. However, political figures in the world have called into question the notion that both developing and developed countries can benefit from the globalization process since the world has witnessed a series of anti-globalization waves, ranging from Brexit to America’s withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership(TPP).Global Goliaths: Multinational Corporations in the 21 st Century is thereby composed to assist readers who lack the economic knowledge to cognize the role played by Multinational Corporations(MNCs)in the world economy and dispel their biased opinions against MNCs.As a book on economics,it is characterized by its rich financial terms, logical cohesive devices, and strong lexical referentiality. On the syntactic level, the book is featured by its frequent adoption of complex sentences that carry more information and are complicatedly composed. This report is going to examine the translations of complex sentences in the book, attempting to reveal suitable translation methods for different types of complex sentences. The grammatical analysis and deconstruction are the prerequisite to EnglishChinese complex sentence translation. But the key to them lies in adjusting diction and sentence orders to realize more natural cohesion and transition. To achieve the desired effect, the translator deliberates the differences caused by various diction and the interclausal relationship in the text to determine the most suitable approach.Through this translation practice, the translator deepens his perception of the hypotactic feature of English and the paratactic feature of Chinese. He also learns how to give a natural rendition by determining the theme of the original text and converting it into “Topic-Complement” structures in Chinese. He hopes this report can shed light on others when they are dealing with complex sentence translations.
