A Report On Chinese-english Subtitle Translation Of David’s Words On World From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology Theory

This thesis is a subtitle translation report of a news commentary program David’s Words on World guided by the Eco-translatology theory.It introduces the translation process of short video subtitles of news commentaries and summarizes the difficulties encountered in the translation process and feasible translation strategies based on the three-dimensional translation principles.According to Eco-translatology theory,the translator should adapt to the translational eco-environment and make adaptive selections based on the three-dimensional transformation principles.In the subtitle translation of news commentary short videos,the translator should consider the features of the program as well as the requirements of subtitle translation,and make corresponding adaptive selections to produce the translation with the highest degree of holistic adaptation and selection.Specifically,in the linguistic dimension,for concise four-character expressions,the core should be grasped,and translation strategies of free translation and deduction should be flexibly adopted;for long sentences in subtitles,adaptive choices are made by cutting down redundant expressions and rearranging the sentences.In the cultural dimension,the translator should make adaptive selections whether to retain the cultural information of the original text according to specific needs when dealing with metaphorical expressions,Chinese idioms and allusions.In the communicative dimension,when dealing with Internet buzzwords and expressions with political orientations,the translator should retain the style of the original text while taking a firm and correct political position to convey the Chinese attitude.The translation of news commentary short videos has significant potential for spreading China’s voice and establishing its international image.This thesis enriches the research materials of subtitle translation of current affairs programs and has certain reference significance for the research of subtitle translation strategies of news commentary short videos.
