Nowadays in the international communication, interpretation is used widely. As a type of interpretation, consecutive interpreting is extensively used in business negotiations, press conference and other activities. Information loss is one of aspects which influence the quality of the interpretation. And this phenomenon is inevitable.First, through the analysis of the interpretation case of the Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference during NPC and CPPCC in 2013(the press conference), and with the guidance of Functional Translation Theory, the author finds out the reasons for the interpreters’different adoptions of translation strategies, such as the different culture of the source language and the target language receiver, the political and timeliness of the source language’s content, the repetitive and loose feature of the source language’s structure and the colloquial feature of the source language. These require the interpreters to adopt appropriate omission and recombination strategies, which therefore leads to the information loss.At the same time, through analyzing the information-lost examples found in the Chinese to English consecutive interpreting in the press conference, this thesis tries to draw a conclusion that the information loss in the consecutive interpreting also can be resulted by the interpreter’s intentional deletion of the modifier and unimportant information. In a few circumstances, cognitive overload can also cause the information loss. This thesis at last presents that, the interpreters should have pre-analyzing of the translation outline and the original text. They also need to make sufficient preparation for the activity request, the speech content and the language features. After interpreting, proper review of their interpretation process is necessary. Then information loss can be reduced effectively.
