| As an English-Chinese translation report,the source text is the first three chapters of the PAG Manual: Protective Action Guides and Planning Guidance for Radiological Incidents.The PAG Manual is extracted from a program entitled the Legal Research on Hazardous Experiment and Tests of Nevada,providing recommended protective action guides and planning guidance for public officials to deal with radiological incidents.In the course of translation preparation,the glossary and parallel texts have been gathered,translation tools have been prepared,and text characteristics have been analyzed.During translation,the computer-aided version has been generated by means of auxiliary translation software like SD Trados Studio 2022.In the process of postediting and proofreading,Newmark’s text typology theory,as well as corresponding semantic and communicative strategies has been adopted to improve and reflect upon the translation.Based on the text typology,the translation material would be informative text,which should be delivered with communicative translation as the dominant strategy.Starting from semantic and communicative strategies,and three levels of lexis,syntax and text,the author employs literal translation,and translation techniques including shift,division,addition,annotation and restructuring to analyze iconic examples.The goal is to transfer core messages accurately,organize target text idiomatically,as well as conveying text function.It is expected that this report would enrich the application of the theory in the domain of radiation protection and offer certain references for the translation in the sphere. |
